From: Damian Whitehouse | posted: 14.06.2004 07:25 I in a sheer moment of madness bought myself a Time Computer. About a month ago I was given a ASUS Geforce FX 5950 as a birthday present. I put the card into my computer and installed the latest drivers for it. Not very long after that my computer started re-booting randomly. I called ASUS technical support and they suggested that it might be that my motherboard bios wasn't up to date and that I should update. I did this and still it didn't help the problem. Anyway eventually I found the problem which was the power supply from the PSU. Now everything was working okay, I decided to use my reload cd to do a format and fresh install of windows. But due to the fact that my bios, which has been updated, dosen't match the bios that the reload cd is looking for, the reload will not work. Apparently after a bit of lookng around, the reload cd looks for certain things in the bios and if they are not there or do not match what the reload cd expects then the reload stops. So I have spent £59.99 on a Reload CD for it not too work. Maybe someone has had this problem before and they can point me in the right direction of resolving this problem? So for all of you out there with Time Computers, do not update your bios if you still want to use your Reload CD |

From: Crispy | posted: 13.11.2004 10:24 The CD will only work with the original PC. It checks the mac address (Serial Number) of the PC and if it doesn't match then it won't work. If you have damaged your CD I suggest you buy an OEM copy of Windows from somewhere like www.microdirect.co.uk (£63.45) or www.aria.co.uk (£64.63). It may be a little more expensive than buying the reload discs but at least you won't have to get rid of Supanet crap. |

From: E'sop | posted: 28.11.2004 06:45 Does anyone believe "Time" would issue a fresh disc, if you bought upgrade parts from them? I "understand" a call to MSN support with license No. should get you another "Key" to let you download/install fresh windows prog? |

From: reload man | posted: 21.12.2004 19:00 I actually work for time computers... here is your problem in a nut shell... How a Time reload cd works... A reload cd is half of an image written in some strange format so windows cant use it for obvious reasons. The cd is bootable. when the cd is booted from it checks the DMI string in the bios, this identifies the motherboard. if the DMI string doesnt match the one that time uses it wont work! I have many theories for this. No1... It prevents piracy but seeing that half of the reload is on the pc's hard disk any way would also prevent this. No 2 and this is in no way meant as an insult, but most customers would not know why it shouldnt be used in another persons machine and would destroy all of their data only to find out that it doesnt work on any other machine due to the other half of the pre load being on the hard disk. So all you need to do is replace the DMI string in the bios. Time as far as im aware will supply you with the bios file with the string in if u ask. hope this helps mail me for more info! |

From: Kevin | posted: 19.01.2005 13:52 To Reload Man: I am trying to help a friend with a Time PC that has been infected with Adware , Spyware and a few "Dialers" and I am getting to the point where I think a reload of windows (WinME) is necessary. He does not have a reload CD, how can I get one for his PC? You say to email you for mail help... but I can't see how to do that through this url http://www.itreviews.co.uk/forum/5468 which is where I found the message. |
