From: bc | posted: 02.02.2006 05:00 My system was stuck in a loop, rebooting and the GoBack splash screen until I tried ctrl-alt-G just after POST. I held down the ctrl-alt keys and hit G multiple times. Now all I get is a black screen. Not even a blinking cursor. I never got a message asking for F. Any ideas where to go from here? I got PMagic to show partitions, but they have cross linked files and clusters. They all are NTFS, except for one Extended, but I am getting error 1601 on the first partition and it looks like the second partion is where the boot files are. I dont know if Goback has been cleaned off. |

From: Ripley | posted: 10.02.2006 21:07 I have 2 harddisk`s. My problem is that windows crasched while restoring. Now i can´t get in contact with disk 2. I have tried all the different advice (ctrl-alt-g and gb_prog) but i does not help me because it only works on disk 1. Do anyone know how i restore the MBR and partition table on disk 2. |

From: KIM | posted: 22.02.2006 13:34 I just have had the boot loop issue myself..Panic struck.. Did not know about the Ctl Alt G thingy...New Gateway laptop with xp pro. It was the bosses system and I thought I would do him a favor by installing the patched version of GoBack that supports XP (3.2.1) I think... Installed OK. Rebooted and then the loop started. The system allowed me to boot to Safe mode and I was able to use the xp restore (luck has it that I created a restore point yesterday) This in effect removed the GoBack installation and I came up smelling like a rose. As to the losing the second drive .. I also had the same problem.. again with the bosses home system. After a BUNCH of trouble shooting and swapping out drives, interfaces, cables and other such nonsense, I reinstalled Goback and the drive magically reappeared. Go Figure. |

From: Jorge Witte | posted: 25.02.2006 19:57 I can't thank 'I Fixed it" enough for his help on this issue. I did the Ctr-Alt-G trick just after POST and then hit F on the splash screen. In my case there was no chkdsk and Windows went to the startup screen. I first tried the Normal mode and the system crashed and booted again. The second time I tried the Safe Mode and the same happened. Finally I tried the Last Good Configuration and Windows booted up fine. Went to the remove programs and just deleted GoBack. The computer re-booted before completing the removal Then I checked the whole system and everything was fine. Again, thank you! I was about to buy a new hard drive and a bunch of sotfware to try to recover my information. |

From: Howie | posted: 28.02.2006 09:59 I wish I had read this forum 10 days ago, when I disabled Goback on my XP loaded machine(I have been using it for years with few problems, admittedly mostly in Win98 and on generic machines). I was trying a prog called Rollback RX and lo and behold I ended up losing the XP Pro restore function about the same time and the ability to run the network setup wizard. I have now been able to recover XP pro restore by copying framedrv.dll from SP2 to windows\system32, but as some have commented GoBack does have redeeming features and I feel sure I would have been able to retrieve the network setup wizard if I still had goback installed. My suggestion is to install goback immediately after loading the OS and ensure plenty of hard disk free space with few partitions/drives. I think it is a great program to get rid of viruses and other nasties getting past your protecion. |

From: Casey | posted: 03.03.2006 21:24 Thanks Robert and others! I have a Toshiba laptop with XP and had the GoBack boot up failure. After doing your suggestions (it took few times to finally get the black screen to type F) got it disabled and removed Go Back. Went ahead and removed Norton SystemWorks (which GoBack came with) and will never buy any of their products again! |

From: Greene.Consulting | posted: 09.03.2006 09:17 I had to do a diag on system tiday and when I tried to scan the sytem with my Norton ghost 9 but I forgot it also had go back on the cd. the system had and older verson go back 3.. well the system locked I had to do a hard reboot and guess what the system gave me internal error code gb_genlog(154) and ""(175) from Ghost 9 boot Cd . it took me 30 mins to get the control screen by hitting th space bar to disable go-back. this almost cost me the job but showing the owner that gb-3 has bugs let me off the hook. I can't believe that this happen as I had used it to scan anothere system with a norton verson of gb and no error but go-back is making that system useable but re-installing after we fix problems and settings..told them we need to remover gb and use ghost to back up the system to USB drives offen less chance of the system re-installing a virus or other problems. If anyone has a better idea please let me know. Thanks G Greene cyberconsulting@gmail.com |

From: rc274 | posted: 19.04.2006 04:18 I have a Dell Demension Desktop with XP SP2 on it. I had the same problem with Norton GoBack in a loop I couldn't break. I used the ctrl-alt-g method and it worked!! Here is what you do... at the very beginning on the computer startup hold down the ctrl-alt keys and continue to hit the G button until you get the black screen between the initial POST screen and the GoBack Splash screen. You will get a note that says, "you are trying to remove Norton GoBack, press "F" to continue". If you haven't beat your keyboard to death (did that on the first try) and it didn't disable on you, then press F and you will get control back to your computer. If you have Norton System works 2006 (like I do) then go to "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel and "change" Norton System Works by removing GoBack. I have used Norton System works for many years and this is the first problem I have had with it. I do not like a program that takes over your computer like that... with no way out. Will NEVER put GoBack on a computer again. |

From: JG | posted: 22.04.2006 14:13 Having spent days trying to fix Nortons screwed up GoBack Program I was on the verge of re-formatting the drive when I read about the Ctrl-Alt-G fix. Even though I had tried it earlier THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO press Ctrl-Alt-G straight after the POST and before any Windows screens. Thanks to all previous posters it was a life saver! |
