From: Mel | posted: 04.01.2007 18:03 Please can anybody help. My friend has got a computer with Norton goback on. When they try to turn the computer on it says: "Norton goback rebooted ur comp cos it detected ur system was unstable. Allowing it to continue wud have caused corruption on disk #1. This instability is prob the result of a bug in an application on ur system, but cud not be caused by hardware probs." The system then displays a screen saying windows is shutting down. Any idea's on how to fix please, Melanie7@ntlworld dot com |

From: upset | posted: 15.02.2007 23:31 I see that this norton goback is a big problem! Symantec referred me to their online service which I was not even able to use because goback would not let it work. They insisted I pay $29 for a tech to tell me how to fix the problem. I guess thats one way of making money, sell something worthless then charge people to fix it so they can use their computer! I'm going to lose everything on my computer but I'm going to attempt a reinstall. Not happy with Norton |

From: Hugh A | posted: 23.02.2007 09:53 I've been having this problem too! Norton Systenworks 2006 working ok on a Dell 4550 with xp until I tried installing sp2. The whole thing died except for the blank screen (sometimes with dot near upper left). Could not re-boot from the Norton or several aother disks. Occasionally on switch-on I would get the Norton Go-back with space bar option. Trying to disable it did not seem to do anything. Now apparent this is because it was happening very very slowly - 9 hours later the bar has reached it's end! Sadly neither that or the ctl-Alt-G thing has worked. It may be telling that it crashed on trying to re-start from installing the service pack. I can re-boot to some dos commands from the windows cd and the windows directory is full of 'uninstall' files. I'll try some of the other stuff listed here. |

From: Hugh A | posted: 23.02.2007 12:44 Happy now! All is working after re-booting from windows disk which this time allowed re-installation 'Repair' option. Have now made more space on disk by deleting things including 'GoBack'! |

From: Bill Zigrang | posted: 04.05.2007 10:45 I have finally identified the problem that led to the boot failure accompanied by the endless cycle of error messages reading, "GoBack has reset your computer because it detected the system was unstable and could lead to corruption of drive 0." At least on my computer, the issue is that GoBack is not compatible with a RAID array - but I'm not using such an array; however, the SATA driver for my 4-year-old ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Mobo is a Silicon Image Sil 3112a "SataRAID" controller; thus, ANY SATA drive is potentially seen as being in a RAID array. The solution: a.) Press the spacebar while GoBack is loading, and from the options menu, choose "disable." b.) After GoBack clears its files (may take a reboot and "resume uninstalling" one or two times), you'll be able to finish bootup. c.) Go to Device Manager (in System|Properties) and disable (don't uninstall) any SataRAID controllers; BTW, you should have your OS and GoBack installed on an EIDE drive, as you won't be able to see any SATA drives after this. d.) Reboot; when asked if you wish to enable GoBack press "Yes." e.) After GoBack has re-created its files, go to Device Manager and re-enableSataRAID; now you can see your SATA drive(s) and proceed normally. Finding all this out cost $300, as I thought I has completely lost my Drive 0 MBR without a backup for the drive (problem reared its ugly head while I was in the process of making such a backup), and I had to ask a Guru to help me out; once I knew I had a backup (or 2), I was able to experiment and find the solution above. Good Luck to all; when GoBack is working, it rocks, and has saved my bacon on many occasions, which is why finding a solution was so important to me. Bill Zigrang |
