From: andy | posted: 16.02.2005 12:29 Hi, I have also been stung by carrera ssc. I bought my machine in october 2004, it arrived broken. I tried to get an enginner out for two months, no luck at all. In the end i sent computer back to them to get full refund, unfortunatley they went into administration before i recieved this money. Who ever ran the company should be made responsible for the money they have in effect stolen from so many people. They lied about how long they were business in for and also should not have sold me a computer with a 5yr warranty if they knew they were not going to be around that long. People should not be able to get away with this. So i say yes to taking these people to court, let me know any ideas about this. |

From: Carrera screwed customer | posted: 25.04.2005 06:37 I purchased a Media Centre. It was purchased under the tax scheme that allows employes to save money on a new PC. So I am locked in for 3 years and have no legal recourse it appears. I am one of the 700 people at Microsoft Limited who took this option, and was stitched up. They knowingly installed a bad batch of TV cards. TFT Faulty Official repair install CD never sent Packing list not sent - no idea what is missing Substandard components used Upgrade to 2005 never arrived Countless support calls never resolved £100s of pounds of my own money lost Days of my time fixing the machine. No wonder this company went bust, treating it's customers like this. |

From: Andrew Healing | posted: 18.05.2005 18:47 Where do I start other than the fact that the other postings on the site do not surprise me. My story unfolds from the moment I ordered my PC in December of last year and has not finished today. In short my Laptop arrived some days later than promised, no main issue here just a minor irritation. It arrived however without my ability to use it, windows had not been installed correctly. So, after re-installing windows and many hours on the phone to IT support (who were very helpful I thought) I moved on....to re-install all the software and drivers that had been wiped - oh yes the recovery disk needed to be re-sent. So, two days after I received my laptop, it was working - still with minor software issues - I could not play DVD's. Again they sent another disk. CD Roms had been sent and not blank DVDs, another phone call and these were sent a few days later. Norton Anti Virus 2005 purchased however it was 2003 that had been supplied, not too bothered I chose to overlook this as I was able to update direct from Norton's live updates. and so to that letter we all received: "Sorry to inform but Digital PLC have gone into liquidation and you no longer have a warranty however New Company can provide a warranty at a cost of £100+ etc etc" Shocked, I called the number only to speak with the same salesman who sold me my laptop. Bearing in mind this was only a few weeks after purchase naturally I was dis-gruntled that my £2000 purchase now had NO warranty. So what did 'Don' the same salesman that sold me my laptop have to say? -well he was less than sympathetic, in fact he made me feel bad that he had lost his job and had been lucky to be re-employed. He made it clear I was not covered and that was the end of that. Naturally I was not going to purchase a warranty out of principle from him and politely declined after telling him how disappointed and cheated I felt. And so to where I am now, thinking that I had put all that stuff behind me.... This week, I came to use Microsoft access for the first time and realised that it did not exist on my PC. Oh I thought, maybe I did not install Office correctly when I first loaded my machine, so I pulled the disks only to find that I had been supplied with Small Business Edition. What? I said, so I surried for my invoice which clearly shows that I had ordered and paid for Professional. So, I made a call today and guess what? Yep, get lost mate I was told, you purchased your laptop from Digital Plc who no longer exist. I am calling the same telephone number I said, you are the same brand, operating in the same office with the same telephone number surely you must be able to make the change, I have my invoice and a stamp on the disk showing you supplied incorrectly. Sorry mate, you and 5000 (yes five thousand - I quote) other people are in the same boat. I asked if he had any sympathy to which he replied, do you have any sympathy for me when I lost my job etc. the conversation deteriorated from there as I knew I would get nothing from these leaches. So, to Watchdog, Which, THe DTI and anyone else who will listen...I'm off to start an investigation on these guys and try and get some justice for what seems to be a rip off.. Anybody else had any joy or fancing joing forces to sort this out - luckily I have my laptop and it works but I am sure there are many others in a far worse situation to me, and what is stopping them going bankrupt again tonight and opening up again tomorrow still using the carrera brand - nothing if you ask me. They may be financially bankrupt but they are definitely morally bankrupt. |

From: dave stokes | posted: 26.09.2006 14:27 I'd just like to add that as another Carrera customer (from 2004) I would strongly advise anyone who is considering buying a CarreraSSC/Watford electronics system, not to (under any circumstances). Sales staff will lie to you about the system and support is virtually non-existent. Pay extra and buy from a company who provide better support, i.e. anybody else. |
