From: Jack Stringer | posted: 18.06.2005 21:44 I have just installed my scanner ok. All I did was go to Canon.com and searched for the drivers. Installed the ASPI layer then installed the CanoScan software and all is working OK. Win XP Pro SP2 running Photoshop CS 2. Though I think windows hardware wizard is going to give me hell over the fact it does not know what it is. But I can ignore that...it works and that all I care about. |

From: Mike | posted: 19.08.2005 22:35 Hi, Just installed my FS2710 succesfully by following the very helpful instructions from Canon Australia: http://www.canon.com.au/support/customer/default.asp?DXI=KnowledgeBase/Customer/KBArticleForm&File=KB00191 Everything works ok :-) If you get problems (i.e. you can't see the scanner in CanoScan), try uninstalling and reinstalling CanoScan. It worked for me. Hope that helps someone. Regards, Mike in sunny Spain |

From: Yves Kreis | posted: 05.09.2005 03:47 Heya, In fact the solution has been posted already, let me resume nevertheless: a) install ASPI drivers (cf. http://www.canon.com.au/support/customer/default.asp?DXI=KnowledgeBase/Customer/KBArticleForm&File=KB00191) b) install latest ScanCraft FS from http://software.canon-europe.com/Scanners/Dedicated_Film_Scanners/CanoScan_FS2710463.asp What I have to add is a clean solution for the Windows XP Device Manager. Create an INF file with the following content and update your driver using it (it won't be a signed driver file as you can imagine ;-) ;# FS2710.INF -- Setup File for the CanoScan FS2710 Scanner ;# Copyright (c) 2005 Yves Kreis (yves.kreis@education.lu) [Version] Signature="$Windows NT$" Class=Image ClassGUID={6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f} Provider=%OrganizationName% DriverVer=09/05/2005, 3.6.6 [SourceDisksNames] 1="CanoScan FS2710" [SourceDisksFiles] FS2710.INF=1 [DestinationDirs] DefaultDestDir=11 [ControlFlags] ExcludeFromSelect=* [Manufacturer] %OrganizationName%=CanoScan [CanoScan] %FS2710%=FS2710,CANON___IX-27025E_______1 [FS2710] Include=sti.inf Needs=STI.SCSISection SubClass=StillImage DeviceType=1 DeviceSubType=0x1 Capabilities=0x00 ICMProfiles="sRGB Color Space Profile.icm" [FS2710.Services] Include=sti.inf Needs=STI.SCSISection.Services [Strings] OrganizationName="Canon Inc." From: Darkilrain | posted: 13.10.2005 11:33 I am using a laptop, so I tried researching a connection through the PCMCIA as an alternative to USB (which I find sometimes glitchy). Adaptec makes a SlimSCSI product, and it does not matter whether it is designed for WindowsXP or earlier versions. The important thing, as mentioned by others, is to download the latest ASPI driver from Adaptec, and install it followed by a restart. WindowsXP recognised and installed it without conflict. I next ensured that the Adaptec was fully functioning, using the incorporated ASPICHK included with the driver download. I didn't find much difference with using either the European or Australian CanoCraftFS drivers (they both worked), but I did go into the properties, and made the Scan_FSe compatible with Windows 2000. The WindowsXP still did not fully install the scanner, and a conflict alert is showing in the device manager. I continued in spite of this, and determined that the CanoCraftFS software program did in fact communicate with and configure the scanner. The scanner performs excellently when activated through the program. I will likely heed everyone elses' advice to eventually investigate VueScan, but at this time I am able to acquire and save the images for later editing in PhotoShop. I was able to acquire all the hardware for less than $50, so I would encourage the film affectionadoes not to give up on this scanner! |

From: Chris Ross | posted: 04.01.2006 11:24 I have been using the FS2710 on 2 different XP machines for some time it works stand alone, as a Twain device in PS and through Vuescan. What I did is as follows. Downloaded the XP/2000 driver from Canon and the required ASPI layerfrom Adaptec. Note I have an old copy of the APSI layer, it doesn't seem to be on the Adaptec website when I last checked. Install the ASPI layer first. Shut down , connect the scanner, power it up and reboot. The add Hardware Wizard opens.... after it has searched and found new hardware wizard opens select install from a list ...Next Choose don't search, I will choose.........Next Double click "show all devices" select unknown device .....unsupported device,..........Next Select Yes, you really want to proceed, then click finish. Now install the driver, scanner should be detected. Hope this is helpful and you can follow it OK. If I recall correctly, the driver I am using is a 2000 driver and the scanner functions just fine. From: Frogman | posted: 10.02.2006 20:56 Hello, I just spent hours to install my canoscan fs2710 on my laptop (windows 2000 PRO), using an Adaptec USB2Xchange . Finally, it works, but only with installing and using the VUESCAN-software. Is there a way to make it work with another program (photoshop, ...). Thanks. From: Priscilla Turner | posted: 20.02.2006 02:24 Ives, I can't thank you enough for your perfect little .inf file. It works like a charm. Now at last I can hope that my FS2710 won't vanish from the system every time I open an XP Pro PC without the scanner attached and turned on. Yes, one can make the scanner work, with both Vuescan and PS, but all the time there's that yellow exclamation mark obstinately sitting there in the Hardware list. As for PS output, one can set both Hamrick and Canon software to open a completed scan in Adobe. The other way is to save scans in a directory, then go into PS and open them. |
