From: Nick | posted: 18.12.2006 14:09 I bought a Toshiba DVD writer from Aldi in July 2005. When it failed I rang Gericom who said it was nothing to do with them as they did not deal with Toshiba. Their phone number is clearly printed on the box and Aldi also gave me the same number. I am still awaiting Aldi getting back to me otherwise it will be a call to Trading standards. |

From: alan vizor | posted: 02.01.2007 21:17 i bought the gericom laptop from aldi begining of 2004 (999.99) I needed to send it in august 2005 for a new optical drive, found the process of getting it to the via the courier a bit of a polava as i couldnt seem to get over to the help desk operator that i had to go to work like most other people and that it would have to be collected from there, so he kept sending them to my home address, eventually i took it to and collected it from the courier, the repair was fine and ended up with a better dvd drive. The toshiba 80 gig hard drive failed in august 2006 so rather than deal with gericom again bought a samsung privatly from one of the internet mail order firms and fitted it myself which i found a much less stressfull and time consuming alternative just recently the optical drive has failed again, it still reads but only burns discs very faintly and i am told this is quite common with dvd burners, obviously not wanting to go through the rigours of dealing with gericom or using another QSI optical drive i wondered if enyone had any experience of comatibility with alternative brands, I have had no other problems with the machine and found it reliable ( no shutting down probs) the battery is still as good as new although i was told that it was a good idea to run it down now and again |

From: Mike Burton | posted: 23.02.2007 12:21 Unfortunately I bought a Gericm Radeon 9700 1580 XL+ The worst purchase of my life. Screen flickers constantly (been back 4 times and going back again on Monday) Switches off anytime whilst typing. Has had 4 replacement memory banks, 4 screen inverters, 1 Motherboard. Last call I made took nearly 20 minutes at 10p a minute, cost me over £10 in phone calls so far. The mouse pad is crap, I sometimes took at what I've typed and it's all over the place. If you slightly brush your hand/finger over the mouse-pad it moves the cursor to the last position it was left. Really frustrating. Take my advise and don't buy a Gericom, I had a Sony before and it was superb, although expensive. The battery life of over 6 hours is a fantasy, this was one of the factors that swayed me to buy it, but it's crap. I also Bought a Medion desktop from Aldi bought because it had a Digital Freeview tuner in it, well it's never worked properly despite being sent back. Hope you all get your problems sorted. Mine is going back on Monday, wonder if they will fix it properly this time 5th time (do pigs fly) wonder how long it's going to be away! Regards Mike |
