From: David M | posted: 19.09.2004 21:47 Wonder if you can help me. Have recently bought this burner and have been having a major problem with it. Burns DVD, DVD-RW ok. Burns CD-R ok. But will not handle CD-RW at all. Nero gives "calibration error" Other progs seem to work but nothing actually happens to the CD. Cannot erase or format them. I have tried three brands i.e. Maxell, Traxdata, and Plextor branded. All of these work perfectly with my Plextor CD writer (which I replaced with the Artec). I know there is a firmware update v.100A, but do not want to do this until I know what problems the update addresses, in case more problems are caused than solved. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

From: Douglas Lindsay | posted: 02.10.2004 22:19 I bought an Artec VOM-12E48X today, and had an interesting problem in that it refused to read the bundled Nero installation CD! I checked the CD on my old drive, an Artec CDRW, and it worked fine, so I tried the flash update - figured that if it didn't improve things I'd be taking the drive back anyway. It's fixed that problem, despite having told me the drive was already v.100A, so perhaps Artec have released a few with corrupt flash? I'd say give the flash a go - you can make a backup of the existing firmware before you make the update - before you execute the command in Artec's instructions, run "FLASH R /M ". That way, you should be able to get back to the old version if you need to. |

From: the_mule | posted: 09.10.2004 06:40 I recently purchased the Artec VOM 12E48x dvd burner as well. ((mistake)) I have not been able to archive any of my home movie collection. They freeze up at random points. I have updated the firmware, purchased new media to verbatim 2x 8x / tried burning all at 8x - 4x - 2x when possible to no avail. I might have as well purchased a cdrw for the reliablility of this thing / It burns standard media fine just cannot use with dvd shrink / dvd xcopy etc My cheaper liteon 4x is much more dependable and works constently. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I have wasted about 50 blank dvds on this thing. |

From: Alan Cohn | posted: 07.11.2004 23:56 I too have purchased the ARTEC VOM-12E48X and I am somewhat a novice to DVD technology. I have looked up and downloaded the upgrade to the firmware but the instructions that came in relation to the download said I needed to go to "real DOS" to install it. Is there a real DOS in Windows XP? How do you get there? I know this sounds simple but help would be greatly appreciated. |
