I want a good quality photo printer that will also produce excellent photo prints (digital camera) as well as decent document prints. Options at present include Epson Stylus 870 and the HP 900 series....Quality is the most critical factor, I can live with compromised print speed....price upto £200....any advice out there would be much appreciated.

I own the Epson Stylus 880 and have found it to produce superb photo prints on Epson's glossy paper. I wrote an online review of its features at the link below. I don't know about the 870, but I highly recommend the Epson 880.

In my opinion the Epson Stylus Color 870 Photo is the best sub-£400 photo ink-jet printer on the market, closely followed by the Canon BJC-8200 Photo. There was a group test on photo printers on this site a few months ago.
