From: Monique | posted: 02.06.2005 15:52 The HDD070/05 was given to me as a Christmas present. Did not use it straight away due to being away and the manual was not clear to me, it took me quite long to get it to work. The software is bad and keeps falling over, it would not install. After many times trying again, it was finally installed. Afterwards I have experienced the same problems as all the others here: 1) software does not recognise the player (says it is not connected), 2) The Hdd070 crashed completeley after using it once 3) Philips callcentre long time on hold at a premium rate 4) retailer House of Fraser refuses refund as 1 day late returning in their terms 4) Philips replaced harddisk 5) I installed upgrade DMM software and it still did not recognise the player 6) have used Media Player to stick the songs on the player this is a lot of work 7) It does not recognise the titels etc of the songs so it takes forever to type it all in Last night just listening to a song and HDD just froze completely. 9) Philips also refuses a refund 10) My advice: Just buy an Ipod it will be expensive but the cheaper crap (although still expensive) from Philips is absolutely the worst thing I have ever had in my life! I am from Holland and thought Philips was a reliable manufacturer, but I have been proven wrong. A new slogan for the Philips site "nonsense and a-simplicity" |

From: 42ongo | posted: 30.06.2005 17:29 Hi all this is very intersting I m a bit of a dinosaur know a little about computers but nothing about digital music My 12 year son got a HDD 070 at Xmas pretty soon it stopped working the same as his cousins one Like others its been really hard to get a refund Currys told my son to look on the Philips internet site to find the answer to his problem When they did give it back allegedly fixed after a few months of arguing we had the same problem as others the software does not recognise the player even though you can see it on my computer in the control panel After installing and uninstalling the software a few times which did nothing I tried to download the latest software but my slow dial up connection fell over after 2 hours of downloading I cant believe a company like Philips should be able to get away with introducing such a shoddy product which is not cheap by any means Almost everyone seems to have the same symptoms so we are not making it up It seems ridiculous that you have to waste so much time trying to get this product ot work Come on Philips come clean the product sucks so issue a statement saying any machines within their guarantee period can be returned and have a full refund no questions asked |

From: Neil | posted: 03.08.2005 14:23 Hi I have an HDD070. It took me about 3 hours to get it running and with music on it. After that, everything was OK. The sound quality is exellent. It's a shame that the software is so bad. |

From: Mark P | posted: 03.08.2005 14:52 Yep Yep Yep !! I have been experiencing the most common problem with the PC not recognising the unit is connected when it actually IS cos you can drag other files to it. This all came about after I annoyingly thought I would update the Firmware from the website !! Having (at the time) a normal dial up ISP it took ages to download the file and install etc, so there was NO WAY I would be able to download the NEW Music Match software on there at 33Mb !! Well thats what you need to do get Broadband 1Mb and download that baby and the Fimware upgrade and its problem solved !! I thought I was gonna have to bin the HDD070 after weeks of frustration, but its working great now and the Music Match software now recognises the unit and I can drag and drop to the Juke box again. Easy as that. Thanks patto at homey25 dot freeserve dot co dot you k |

From: Jonnygrunge | posted: 09.08.2005 01:38 In reply to all your issues, I too had problem with Phillips DMM software not recognizing my HDD 065 when it was plugged in and recognized by Windows!!. The solution was a fault with Java Runtime Environment which DMM uses for file transfer. I noticed it was installing v1.4.1 when I had Platform 2 v5.0 installed. There seemed to be a conflict between the two platforms. The solution was copy two folders after the latest version of Java was installed and verified from: http://www.java.com/en/ After installation copy the folders bin and lib (Binary and Library files) from the installation directory in my case: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04 and paste them into the following folder in the DMM directory: C:\Program Files\PHILIPS\HDDDMM\_jvm replacing any or all files if prompted. This should update the Java RE the DMM software engine uses, and will avoid any conflicts of different Java Platforms. It worked for me!, as DMM is better (if you can say that about any of the software bundled with the player!!) than musicmatch. Hope this was some help. Let me know if it works for you. Later. |

From: mick | posted: 12.08.2005 04:46 Come on guys, how many of you don't know one end of the pc from the other? I have one of these units, which took me about 20 minutes to learn and set up. After that I took about 15 mins to put 40 songs on it, all working fine. Hints; Read the instructions.........don't panic and click everything, make sure you get an upto date PC, and get cable internet.... Then you will not have probs. |
