From: murelik | posted: 22.06.2006 10:15 I bought philips HDD 070 a while ago, 7-8 months. It worked fine until the start of June when my laptop suddenly didn't reconize it. Tryied everything in the book, but it kept saying the same massage after powering it up - problem! please connect to computer. I managed to solve the problem somehow (formatting was involved), don't remember how and it worked again for a few weeks. Now I've got the same problem. After connecting it to the computer it does nothing and freezes. And I can't even format it...arghh, I'm going nuts, anyone have any tips how to solve the problem? |

From: Sunshine | posted: 26.07.2006 16:47 I have this hdd070 and it is a piece of crap! Several months ago it had a flickering screen, and Philips fixed it. I went to plug it in today, and another flickering screen. I called Philips and they told me, "What did I expect? It was old." Old? It's not more than 18 months, and used only about 30 hours or so!!!! They refuse to fix it, and told me that it was a worthless effort to try to repair. I will NEVER try another Philips product again. Run fast, people, never look their way again!!!!!! |

From: Paul | posted: 08.08.2006 17:14 I too have a 14 month old dead hdd070/05 with the flashing screen when trying to charge it. I have been in touch with philips by email this is the first reply they sent me. "Recently you have asked us about the problems you are having with your mp3-player. I apologise in case delay has occurred in answering your email. * First I advise you to Reset the device. Simply push and hold down the arrow up button and press VOLUME + at the same time. Hold until the player shuts down. This will do a soft reset on your mp3-player. Try to start the mp3-player again. * You can also try charging the battery for more then 12 hours, after you have complelty drained the battery of the device. This sometimes solves a possible memory effect on the batteries . * Then I advise you to remove the Philips Device Manager software again from your PC, restart the PC and install the latest software from our website. go to http://www.p4c.philips.com Type in your Product number (HDD1620/05) Click the Search Button On the left side select:Software -> Installation CD / PC Software Then I suggest you connect the mp3-player, with the charger connected, to the PC !! CAUTION !! Then start the Philips Device Manager Software and select the option Repair/Restore. !! this will erase everything on the the mp3-player and bring the mp3-player back to factory settings !! *** * If the mp3-player is not detected by the PC, Download the following Patch (Gogear Detect Tool): either click on the link or copy the link into your internet browser. http://www2.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/get?url=/sca/sca/060214/060214143352_10792.zip&ofn=Detect Philips GoGear Device_v3.zip Save it (desktop), unpack it and run the program, just follow the steps. *** * After you have done this you I advise you to Update the Firmware aswell : Go to http://www.p4c.philips.com Type in your Product number (e.g. HDD6320/05 or SA255) Click the Search Button On the left side select: Software ->Firmware -> and follow the steps * Does the device make a ticking noise? This could indicate a harddisk failure, The mp3-player should be sent in for repair then. * If these steps did not solve the problem, first call our helpline: If the device is still covered under warranty , you can contact Philips at 0906 1010 017 £ 0.15 / minute . If they can not solve the technical problem over the phone they will arrange a pick up for the device to be repaired. If the device is not covered by warranty anymore but you still want to have it repaired : contact Service Care at 0870-9904071 We hope we answered your question satisfactorily. Should you have further questions on this subject please refer to: PHE-060807-0279" This reply had nothing to do with my problem but decided to put it on charge for 24 hours this did nothing but make the screen flash even faster. I replied to the email telling the customer support help the problem again this time I got this reply. "Recently you have asked us for support with your mp3-player. Unfortunately it seems that the flash-memory of the device is faulty. This means that it must be send in for service. Please call our Service Center to let your unit repaired. You can reach them at the following number: 0870 990 4071 We hope we answered your question satisfactorily. Should you have further questions on this subject please refer to: PHE-060808-0131 With kindest regards, Philips Customer Care Centre." I rang the 0870 990 4071 service centre number to be told that because it was just out of warranty there was a standard repair charge of £99.95 to repair the unit I could not believe that known problems with these units are being used to exploit and rip off customers who have bought these units in good faith only to be fobbed off and ignored. |

From: Paul | posted: 09.08.2006 19:03 Update .....I decided to strip the unit down the first and obvious thing was the battery i unplugged it from the unit and then removed the black tape from around the battery to expose the battery terminals. On the side of the battery is a small piece of pc board so I ran a couple of multimeter checks to find there was no voltage at all where the wires are soldered to the board but there was power if I connected straight to the battery terminals. On closer inspection I found what seems to be a small encapsulated chip of somekind on the botton of the circuit board (maybe a just out of warranty date timer :-) ) but I found that the break in circuit was on the negative side so I removed the black wire and soldered it straight to the negative battery terminal and guess what the unit came to life again and charged up no problems. Now the chip must be there for a reason but I cant think of one at the moment if anyone knows? hope this helps a few people out. There is company in the uk that supplies spares for philips products dutchwest.com Im waiting for a reply to see how much a new battery would cost |

From: kodf | posted: 05.09.2006 21:41 Comparing my situation with all your complaints on the HDD070 I think I can feel happy with my small problems. After using it about 12 months rather often without many complaints some problems are arising. Sometimes my device is freezing and I fear the frequency is becoming higher: is my disk or my memory getting bad?. Does anyone know? But I have await what will happen in next weeks/months. One problem that I experienced soon as rather burdensome was the slowness in loading the player by using Musicmatch. Later on I learned that loading by using Windows Media Player 10 worked much faster, but deleting the music files was very slow with WMP10. Deleting goes much faster in Musicmatch. So now I have the following procedure to reload: 1) delete the files on the HDD070 by using Musicmatch 2) preparing some playlist by WMP10 3) loading the HDD070 by synchronisation in WMP10. Maybe this might raise your appraisal of your Philips player. |
