From: Pat Evans | posted: 15.04.2005 07:32 Many thanks for responding. am using win XP pro, SP1. I am using the firewire cable.....have been all the time..so that is why I am so puzzled as to why I am unable to get the footage to PC. Is it necessary to have a particular firewire cable. Should I have the specific JVC cable? or will any firewire cable do the job? |

From: Pat Evans | posted: 15.04.2005 07:36 sadly no, but I am gathering a huge collection of tapes ;-). I have a hunch that there is a setting in Windows that needs tweaking, but don't know where to start. Have you had much joy from JVC? I do feel that with kit like this we get caught between JVC, the PC manufacturer, the firewire card manufacturer and the Software manufacturer (in my case both Microsoft and Pinnacle)...what joy! |

From: Pat Evans | posted: 15.04.2005 07:38 What OS are you using.? Did you buy a JVC firewire cable, or some generic make? Where did you get the camera from? I got mine from pixamania and am wondering if there is a problem with having a 'European' model, rather than a UK model. Any thoughts |

From: Pat Evans | posted: 13.08.2005 11:36 Hoorah!! I have just paid DELL software support and after 2 days they came up with the solution for my set up. I have Win XP Pro. I have put on the SP2 updates, so now have movie maker v5.1. I could not believe how simple the solution was..... Connect the camcorder to the PC using the firewire cable. Set the camcorder to 'play'. (Ignore the options to select movie maker etc) Check in device manager that there are no problems with the firewire card and camera. (Camera found under 'imaging devices'). Now open 'My computer' Is the video camera listed? (Mine was listed as AVC compliant dv camcorder). If so, open it up (Double click on it). (Ignore This opened up the ' AVC compliant dv camcorder' window. press the 'play' button (Inside the camera) to play back the video in the camera. The footage now appeared in the window on the PC....yeah! Now close down the window, and switch off the camera. Set the camera to 'play' again.(Dial on RHS of camera) This should bring up the option to select Movie Maker, follow the on screen instructions, and click on the capture button...and hey...you should see the video in preview, and the footage should be captured. unbelievable that it has taken 8 months to find a solution...where in the manual did it say that this was necessary!! I do hope this works for you. |
