From: Matthew | posted: 30.11.2000 15:03 From the article written on SuSE one would gain the impression that during installation you do not get to create a normal user, this however is totally untrue as you will get to do this. The rest of the article is not that bad, although it seems to focus on installation rather than full feature set and support. With SuSE they have admitted that full installation is a bad idea. Not a bad attempt overall, however it lacks any real depth to be totally worthwhile. Although good try. Maybe you can invest the time and work with each distrobution, and even test the support lines? |

From: Alex Cruickshank | posted: 01.12.2000 15:17 Fair comments. We decided to concentrate on the installation, hardware support and software content of the distributions because these give a good indication of product maturity. I started playing with Linux a couple of years ago, and the installation process was far from straightforward. The current lot are generally much better, and so are more likely to attract new users. As for spending more time on this, we'd love to. But Linux is such a vast topic that we'd have to devote the entire publication to it in order to do it justice. As it is, hopefully the group test gives people an idea of what to expect; then they can move on to more comprehensive sites/magazines to get further information. |
