From: David Whyte | posted: 08.12.2000 17:45 Is there a difference between the two? I have just bought a new AMD Duron 700 and it is a socket A processor. I have looked on auction sites for a mainboard to go with this but boards I have found for amd processors have been classed as slot A. I'm Confused. Thanks in advance D |

From: keir | posted: 11.12.2000 14:08 The difference is between the older Slot A socket, designed to take Athlon chips, and the new Socket A, designed to take Duron and the new Thunderbird Athlon chips. In other words, you'll have to get a Socket A board. I'd avoid auction sites too and buy it brand new from a reputable dealer -- to much can go wrong, such as bad handling, to buy a motherboard any other way. |
