From: partyzan | posted: 09.01.2006 23:26 Yeah karl, how long do ur ferrari have it? Lets have a chat after few months... I have an aspire and will probably never buy acer again - when the heat sensor got baked the guys in the official acer repair shop told me oh these acers, they're all so badly designed concerning heat dissipation, if u want to play a game you better do it in a freezer :) it's probably cheaper for acer to design shite NBs and spend money on exchanging the burned parts while they're in warranty( that's why it always takes six weeks - so u don't burn too many :)) |

From: The Saint, Qatar | posted: 23.01.2006 13:13 This was interesting reading as being a Ferrari 3000 owner myself, I have had all the problems that has been described here. I bought the laptop in March 2003 and I complained about the high temperature on the left side(familiar), they told me it was Normal and nothing could be done. after a month the battery died-I am now on my 4th battery. Then the motherboard died, all the Bluetooth and Wifi problems are known- I also had problems with the screen going blank. Frustrated yes. Before it has booted it will crash and reboot on average 3 times before getting stable. So after this I have left the PC on all the time, with an "Cool Pad"underneath. I never turn it off and it is used as my stationary pc. As a replacement I bought one HP and one Sony laptop, what a relief:) Did I tell you about my experience with Acer ? CRAP everywhere, Malaysia, Australia, Korea, UK, Poland, Sweden. They all suck |

From: user in Finland | posted: 24.01.2006 08:19 Acer does not do such a good job with these kinds of problems, really. The customer service here didn't do any difference - the moatherboard of the computer was changed, but the heating problem stayed. I bought extra memory (1 Gb) and installed it (by the way, the slot is under the keaboard) and I tried to clean up the dust inside the computer. I noticed that at least the only visible cooler was covered with dust that was very hard to clean - was is the 'heat sink' mentioned before here? (Some computer guy recommended to use clean pressure air to do the job (it is clean and usually very dry)). But, nevertheless, the problem is still here. Those sudden shutdowns keep on appearing during hard working sessions etc. Next time I buy something different. |

From: Brown | posted: 25.01.2006 03:30 My brother and I bought two acer ferrari 3000 a few days apart. His went first after about one year it would not boot without doing a check disk first. The it stopped booting all togeather. Acer did fix it and replace the hard drive under warranty but he was 8 weeks without his laptop whitch was his only computer. Shortly after he got his fixed mine started the same thing. I just disabled the check disk and it starts a little slow but atleast it starts every time. My cd/dvd drive burner is shot. It will not play a dvd. I do not use blootooth so I do not know if mine works or not. My battery will only last for about 10 minutes. And hot very hot. I took it in and had it cleaned which helped a little. I would not buy another one. |

From: Dirk, Denmark | posted: 04.02.2006 14:54 It is a relief to read that it's not only me having problems with the ferrari. I own the Ferrari 3200, two months after I got it, it started to crash very often, until it completely died. Motherboard and harddisk was replaced. When I got it back I installed some more memory (2GB), because I like to work with photo editing and I am addicted to multitasking. It started to crash (blank blue screen with critical hardware failure after so called 'cold start'), once in a while, I was afraid that I installed the memory wrong, or had done something else to it. The crashes seems irregular, and at times I never had them. I now know, that it only crashes after first start-up after changing something relating to the hardware (i.e. web-cam, external mouse, memory, or even a different net-work connection - let it be wireless or cable). I can make changes while the computer is running without problems, but the hardware profile is changes after a boot-up I get the blue screen problem consistently. For example if I have been connected to one network and I shut it down and next time I reboot I hook it up to a different connection i.e. wireless it crashes with a blue screen shortly after starting up. However, on the next start-up it will run fine, if I have made no changes. So, I do get some long periods of time when everything works as it should. But this shouldn't happen, so I am sending it back for repairs on Mon. With regards to the cooling problem. CrystalCPUid will help solve a great deal of the problems. It works great for me. Install it, and make sure it runs multiplier management on start-up. I have three different settings "max - 9x multiplier, 1.2V, interval 5000ms, Down 20% (default)";, "middle - 7x multiplier, 1.150V, 500ms interval, up threshold, 65%"; and finally "minimum, 4x multiplier, 0.875V, 500ms interval, 80% up threshold". It works great, the computer is virtually silent cool with normal work-load - and it runs stable. Remember these settings are for the 3200, you will like have to experiment yourself with getting uptimal settings for other models of the ferrari. The program is free and can be downloaded - remember to get the right platform With CrystalCPUID (ver. 4.6.1.278) installed it is nice and cool. I know acer has a similar program but they have not made it publicly availble - and I have not been able to get it anywhere. It would be nice if someone could get their hands on it, apparently it gives more contral of the steps in the multiplier management. However, one thing is cleas - my next laptop is NOT an ACER. |

From: Jesper | posted: 14.02.2006 15:08 ACER Ferrari 3000 =several problems... (Keyboard conflicts, PC card conflicts, BT problems etc) Most likely the BT problems described above are related to XP SP2 and the "ACER Launch Manager". Uninstall the BT related software and the “Launch Manager” from ACER and use the software and drivers that are included in XP SP2. Without the "launch manager" the BT button on the front will be disabled but the BT device will be running. -- I made a clean XP Pro installation (without installing XP Home first) and upgraded to SP2. After that I downloaded and installed the "VIA chipset 4n1", "ATI VGA", "Power Now" and "Launch Manager" from ACER. Symptom: No BT device The XP SP2 includes all BT related software but I could not see any BT device in the device manager and in the “Launch Manager” configuration it showed "Bluetooth Not Exist". In the event viewer it shows a warning; source: BTHUSB event: 18. Solution: Uninstall “ACER Launch Manager” I uninstalled the "Launch Manager" and restarted the system. After that the BT button is disabled (no on screen info and no change of BT status) but BT is always active and in the device manager you can see “BT Radio”. After that I had no problems to connect to my BT phone. Just keep in mind that the BT Radio is active whenever your computer is on. So, if you want to use your computer during a flight you should first check with the airline staff if BT radio is ok since different airline companies have different policies. |

From: Holly | posted: 03.03.2006 12:49 I've also had acer problems. I got a brand new acer centrino, all was fine for 5 months (except the fact it's a slow machine) until it suddenly started crashing. A lot. The time in between each crash slowly decreased until it would no longer turn on. At first I thought it may be a virus, but it soon became apparent that it was something far more serious than that. When it was on it started making horrible clunking noises, that it hadn't made before. It finally died, and wouldn't work on an external monitor either. I only hope that I will be able to get a refund from where I bought it, and after reading up on acer, I will not be replacing it with this make. I had heard that acer were a really good make, until I had this problem, and heard other people I know have this problem, and its now apparent they should be avoided. Wish me luck for Monday! |

From: Rob Duncan | posted: 10.03.2006 17:28 Acer Aspire 3500, 4 months old now- thought it was a great laptop for the price- display is crystal, shut the computer down and left the power cable connected (as u do) wouldn't start, unplugged and removed battery, plugged back-in no joy, came back 2 days later and it started first time, however- everytime I shut the PC down- it shuts down for a longer period- last time it wouldn't turn back on for 2 weeks, okay- leave it on you say- it MIGHT BURN THE ***** HOUSE DOWN, it eminates heat like hell, basically the power adapter is over charging the circuts on the mobo, I could still read a charge of the AC with a multimeter when it was unplugged/battery removed. |
