From: Hytower | posted: 08.06.2006 20:32 I have had an Acer Ferrari 3000 since christmas a few years ago. Yes it gets hot, so do other laptops. I had winxp pro installed at point of sale, as i required the machine to logon to a domain. Yes, you have to tweak it some for ideal operation, but again, most people either tweak windows to run sweeter or use 3rd party software to do the same - how many times have you heard "I installed this program that came on a magazine, and now. . . . ." Bluetooth was an issue i discovered after installing XPSP2, the fix that worked for me was to uninstall the widcomm software and the launch manager then re-install the launch manager. now all works fine. Acer have been lax in driver updates imo, but as reported earlier on this thread, Omega drivers are excellent. At the end of the day, this is still the most stylish bit of kit ever invented :D Hytower |

From: ext | posted: 10.07.2006 15:23 I searched from Google with "Laptop repair acer ferrari" and end up with this discussion. Everything looks so familiar and I promise I will not buy Acer any more. It really really sucks. My Ferrari 3000 normally works 10 minutes, then turned off without any warning message, on the left and top of keyboard, it's extremely hot. Acer tried to fix it once but the service was totally sh*t because this "lovely" laptop last 10 minutes and then turned off. I wonder how can they start sales with so GOOD machine to boil the eggs. |

From: Kris in Japan | posted: 11.07.2006 16:23 Hi all. I have had a Ferrari 3000 since Dec.2003. I have been relatively satisfied, but all the c*** have started now. Should i get it repaired(cost/age) or just scrap it and get over with it? And will i have to calculate with replacing expensive components every 2½-3 years? I have used HP in workrelated issues and must say, they seem more robust. Regards to everybody |

From: James | posted: 20.07.2006 11:59 My 3200 worked fine for just over a year then died. I've now had the motherboard and the hard disk replaced 3 times, and today, the 3rd motherboard has died. I believe the heat problem leads to premature failure of these components. Luckily each new motherboard comes with a 3 month warranty and the last one was only fitted 5 weeks ago, but it is becoming pretty tiresome now. My company won't budget for a replacement though. |

From: user in Finland | posted: 15.08.2006 14:56 Yes - it seems like you guys have these problems, too... My computer has been in intensive use ever since I got the motherboard replaced, but the heating problem is still there. I calculated that I could even boil water with this machine if I travelled to some mountain high enough!! :) The heat under the left wrist is sometimes very high. The extended memory helped a little - next I'm going to install another operating system and check out if there are better ways to control the over-heating using software-based solutions...(I have given up my hope with XP, too). The clean, high-pressure air could help too with dust inside the computer... Anyway, better luck to you. |

From: DisgruntledinVietnam | posted: 22.08.2006 08:31 Just my experience. I had an Acer Travelmate C110i (Tablet PC). It randomly started powering off by itself one day and wouldn't restart. After having my IT staff look at it to no avail, I went to Acer's Service Center here in Saigon, Vietnam. They told me the motherboard had a fault. That's it. No details. When I asked to speak to the engineer who examined my computer, I was told he was "busy". This is right before lunchtime. How can be busy when I just saw him wandering around the office a minute ago? And yes, I know that was the right guy. I emailed Acer directly via their website and complained. Within 48 hours, I got an apology and a "detailed" desciption of the problem. My motherboard has apparently faulted and it costs $700 for a new motherboard ($600 for a used). Why would I spend that amount of money on an old computer when their service is so bad? I had to take time out of my day to go to Acer to drop off and pick up the computer, but the engineer couldn't take 2 minutes to walk out and explain to me the problem. It wasn't a language barrier either, as he speaks English, apparently. I checked. Acer, unfortunately, lost a customer due to their shoddy service. I couldn't even get pricing on a display model of their 17" laptop. I was told it wasn't available. Then why are you displaying it? And why does your printed catalog then carry it, with pricing? Acer's sheer arrogance lost them a customer. Their crap electronics lost me at first, but their service sealed the deal. Cheers on you, Acer! |

From: Acer Ferrari 3000 fan | posted: 23.08.2006 23:18 I have had my Acer Ferrari 3000 notebook for over 2 years now and it has never failed me. I regret that some of you have had problems with it but mine has worked until now perfectly. Except for the "heating problem" which doesn't bother me that much, my Ferrari hasn't had any of the problems mentioned in this discussion. I have used it daily for at least 6 hours a day, many times letting it on at night for downloading or other tasks. I haven't had any hardware failure problems and its performance is still top notch (considering its age). I would recommend Acer products, especially from the Ferrari series, to anyone. |

From: user in Finland | posted: 24.08.2006 09:10 I finally got a nice pressure-air blower to my hands and checked whether it has any meaning - and it did! I lift off the keyboard (I have Ferrari 3000 lmi, so remember to take those two screws off - they're marked with a letter 'K' next to them. Remember to take that part marked with text 'Ferrari 3000' and fixed with 4 screws, too) and blowed the dust away. Finally I used a vacuum cleaner to take the rest of the dust... Now I have Firefox, Skype, Messenger, Visual Fortran and Matlab running on my desktop and the machine seems to be much colder than previously. I highly recommend this to you guys, too (the blower costs here about 10 €, so you won't go bankrupt :)). At least try it. |
