From: BE | posted: 25.08.2006 02:20 Hi all, I purchased my Ferrari 3000 in March 04..Up until 4 days ago I had never had a problem with it..Seriously I have had so many people go and by ACER products because of how good this machine has been.. Sure it overheats and that does bother me at times but all inall it has been a solid performer.. BUT..now the heating has become too much and things have started to crash and then take 45mins to disc check before loading up..I am still running the factory XP home..I use CS2, 3DSMAX 8, AutoCAD etc and it has run these well since day one out of the box.. BT stack service note comes up at every startup but i dont use it so not a problem for me... I have just taken the advice and removed the keyboard and removed the huge amount of dust and grime...I am quite confident trhis is the reason of my extra heat.... Hopefully now it will be ok but to be honest 2.5 years out of a lappy is very good however ACER service is S**T and their heatiung problems are terrible. |

From: Sajid Waheed | posted: 25.08.2006 16:59 Well after reading about 5 reviews about Acer Ferrari, i want to share my view with your people. I buy Acer Ferrari 4002 two months ago. previously i was using Toshiba Tecra M2. I also use Dell, and Sony Laptops. All i can say is that Acer Ferrari 4002 is the best machine i have ever used. and now i am going to buy Acer Ferrari 5000 very soon. |

From: Acer 3000 user | posted: 03.09.2006 00:34 Like a previous poster, I've had a Ferrari 3000 since December 2003. It has had very extensive use (so much so that most of the letters have rubbed off the keys) over the last three years, both in the office and on business trips, and it has performed flawlessly, despite being used in some hot or humid environments. The only problem has been that Bluetooth stopped working after I installed Windows XP SP2, and now, every time I boot up, a window pops up: "Error: Unable to start Bluetooth stack service". I'll try the fix suggested by an earlier poster in this thread. |

From: John Adams | posted: 20.09.2006 06:12 I am currently using Acer Ferrari 4005WLMi, and it works great. However, there is still over heating (but not to 73 degrees celcius. My highest was 43 degrees celcius). Sometimes, the computer crashes and some programs make me restore the whole comp to the state it came with. I have done it like 5 times in about 1 year. One last problem is that ur fingerprints stick around the keyboard, making it look dirty, but it can be wiped off easily. It is a great computer to have! |

From: alex | posted: 26.09.2006 14:59 I've owned an Acer Ferrari 4006 since February 06 and I am very happy with it. It hasn't been perfect but once you get all the kinks worked out it's a very capable machine. I think the problem here is that, like a lot of bad reviews, a few people have these problems with their machines, albeit Dell, Acer, Gateway, etc, and they are legitimate but they feel that since it happened to them, it must be widespread and the product much be defective universally. I used to pay attention to such reviews but you really can't anymore because when I started to shop for a notebook, every single one had at least a few really bad reviews. I mean no disrespect to anyone on this this thread. It's just I'm tired of reading threads like this where a few people have had some really bad luck and feel like they need to destroy a product that for the most part is pretty well designed and functions great. I use my machine for AutoCAD and World of Warcraft for the most part. It's also great for ripping and encoding DVD's. The wireless and Bluetooth work fine. It does get warm, especially when using AutoCAD or playing games, but there are very few notebooks, with dedicated video cards, that do not. My only legitimate gripes about note book are: (1) the DVD drive is very picky about what media you use. It will usually burn anything, but at 2.4x when it should be burning at the max, which is 8x. In fact I have had to return my Ferrari once to replace the DVD drive as it stopped working in the BIOS but oddly enough worked in windows. But since most people need it to work outside of windows (boot from CD), I called (don't email, you're right on that, email takes them forever to respond to) and the next day they picked up the notebook, had it at Acer the following day and I believe I had it back within 4 business days. (2) The mouse is not up to par with the rest of the system. I'm pretty disapointed in that. Really jumps around. In conclusion, I've yet to come across a notebook or computer that was perfect in everyway, ran at 25C and never crashed. This machine works and during a brief period of time could be had at a good price, but now there are machines out there with better bang for the buck. Still, this machine is awesome. And for those having problems with bluetooth in windows Vista (at least for the 4006): download the bluetooth drivers for the Ferrari 5000 (the 5.0 ones), in the Device manager right click UNINSTALL everything you can that says bluetooth, turn off the bluetooth (press the blue button), run the bluetooth driver install. restart. once you get in, turn on bluetooth and, at least in my case, it should detect and install everything. You may need to manually install via the Device manager, right click "acer module" update drive and do the "choose your own drivers" via the have disk method, and point it to the Program Files/Widcomm folder. But I've gotten it to work pretty well. I hope this was helpful. |

From: Jon | posted: 04.10.2006 05:24 I purchased the ACER Ferrari 4000 in january of 2006, not cause of how it looks, but cause of what came inside, the 100gb hd, radion x700, 128mb dedicated vid card and the gig of ram, and i love it, its never cause me a problem, i had to convert it to NTFS but thats about it, the bluetoth and LAN work great, use em both on a regular basis, it does get a lil hot but only when the heat vent on the bottom is covered, usualy by sitting on my bed, but that y they have such tall feet cause on a flat surface it provides proper ventalation, this machine plays al my games, its always fast.. if u maintan it, and i love the 15.4" widescreen lcd, and dont forget the carbon fiber lol im a car enthusiast and its a great add on, all in all i think its was a good buy and i dont regret a thing, my mom has the ferrari 3000 and its never had a problem. |

From: untamd | posted: 18.10.2006 21:21 I finally managed to fix the SP2 bluetooth problem on a clients ferrari 3000 To get the generic blue tooth radio available in device manager for those that cant see it you must follow the instructions here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883258 regarding deletion of the bluetooth config registry key. You must also uninstall launch manager so the hardware wizard can see the device (uninstalling launch manager apparently turns on the bluetooth device permanently) After much trial and error a combination of installing the latest WIDCOMM bluetooth driver (1.4.2.8) from the acer support site, uninstalling launch manager, deletion of the registry key (I also ran registry cleaners reg mechanic and tweak registry cleaner but probably didn't have to) and scanning for hardware changes gave me the generic blue tooth radio (with microsoft driver) which I then 'upgraded' to the widcomm driver (select 'don't search I will choose the driver to install'). This then installed the CSR USB bluetooth device (finally...only a day and a half mucking around and serching the internet) Once bluetooth is operational you can reinstall launch manager and turn bluetooth on/off Sorry I cant give a detailed step by step as the final solution was stumbled upon - but armed with the above info you should be able to get bluetooth working on a 3000 with M$ XP SP2 Good luck |

From: Andy | posted: 07.11.2006 13:40 I have had a Ferrari 3400 for just coming up to 2 years now. It is experiencing overheating, most likely due to the heatsinks being clogged up I imagine. Anyone got any advice on how to go about taking this thing apart to clean it? |

From: Vics | posted: 02.01.2007 18:46 I am running VISTA on a Ferrari 4000 (4006 model). Vista is very nice on this machine, as it is a Premium box. everything works like a champ on 64 bit and a few issues with BT on the 32 bit version. Keep recognizing "Acer Module" as a new hardware all the time. Acer web page and support sucks as everybody else already put it here. |
