From: Judith | posted: 15.04.2004 22:08 I saw your post and thought I would respond. I have extensive experience with Lotus Approach and absolutely love it. The hard part is that the market is flooded with Microsoft Office programs that I am finding so few businesses who utilize Lotus. They have a tendency to learn what is packaged with their system purchases. I have created many databases using Approach and love it. If I could only find work in this area !! |

From: Ron Mlotek | posted: 05.06.2004 16:24 For the home or small business user, Lotus Approach is an infinitely superior product to Access. I purchased the 2.0 version of Approach years ago. I had a database up and running within hours. I have spent months trying to gain even a minimal understanding of Access and failed. Even the “Dummy” books don't help. Access, I'm sure, is far more capable and suited for a large company with its own IT staff or outside consultants. But for anyone who must do it themselves, or prefers to, Approach cannot be beat. Only one problem: I don't thing Lotus makes it anymore. I think Lotus abandoned the product years ago, so far as I can tell. I would love to get an upgraded version if I could. Otherwise, I fear, I will be forced to migrate my entire now-huge contact database to Access. I really don't want to, but I fear I will have no choice. Approach 2.0 still runs on XP, but I get weird error messages. Does anyone know what the latest/last Approach version was? Was there a Lotus successor product that would easily import Approach data? I would be thankful for any info. Ron |

From: Steve Wood | posted: 09.06.2004 09:01 I'm an avid user of Lotus approach and have been for many years and I presume using the latest version via XP. Recently I had a problems in adding new forms, letters to existing database every time I went to design to create, it is always greyed out. Have you any ideas why this should happen and if so how to rectify. |

From: David | posted: 01.07.2004 14:08 I am sorry to disagree with you all but I think that the Approach system looks quite poor in comparison to Access. I develop Access databases for my company and have come across approach databases designed by others they are using them for multi user purposes and seem to get errors all the time. Does anyone now the limit for users on Lotus Approach 3.0? I was told it was 15 but I can't see it on the net or in any of the documentation I have. Please help!! |

From: Neil | posted: 07.07.2004 16:52 I have developed large databases using Approach 3 for some blue chip companies. Its fine... Best to use the most recent versions as they have Lotusscript in them... But it should be rock solid if installed properly. And the databases are well designed |

From: Durana | posted: 06.11.2004 04:55 Know little about Approach, but created a database with Access for our Multiple Listing Service (MLS) for the local Board of Realtors that served us well. It was very sophisticated, and although took some time to figure out, was worth it. Now, my son uses Approach for his database for a Buyers Club, and due to losing his tech and the database has to recreate the entire database. Like the original poster, I need a "temporary" or freeware copy of Approach just to get him up and running again. Can anyone help? I had Lotus Suite, but must have given it away due to using MS Office. |
