From: Alex Cruickshank | posted: 20.02.2001 13:27 Quite a lot, probably. You'd be better off finding the best AGP 2x card you can find (in terms of money, at least). Alex |

From: Gordon Finlay | posted: 20.02.2001 14:07 I'm thinking of doing something similar. ie upgrading the graphics card from PCI to AGP. Do I take it that X2 and X4 will work in old mainboards with X1 slots? The board is a Microstar MS5169 if that helps. |

From: Alex Cruickshank | posted: 20.02.2001 14:24 I've used AGP 2x cards in 1x motherboards in the past, and I'm pretty sure there's no problem using 4x cards in 2x boards. I don't know of anyone who's used 4x cards in 1x boards, but I don't *think* there would be a problem, apart from the loss of performance as the clock rate drops. Alex |

From: Colin Elliott | posted: 05.03.2001 19:48 I think this is worth checking out carefully. I was hoping to replace an old 4MB ATI card with a 32MB Hercules Prophet II MX but evesham have informed me, when I contacted them about it, that my motherboard is only AGP 1.0 compliant and the card manufacturer details indicate that AGP 2.0 standard is required. This is apparently not the same thing as whether or not it is AGPx1, X2, X4. |
