From: ndegs | posted: 03.01.2006 12:50 a freind of mine recently bought one of these to discover the poor touch pad! not to much of a problem since a cordless mouse was bought with it! the screen has failed in a bad way! took it back to PCworld and they said they can send it off to philips to evaluate the situation. Intrestingly i have a freind in Philips that said that Philips do not make notebooks and when i queried the x50 @ Pcworld they said that its just a rebranded chassis. That will explain why its not on the Philips website and that the only stores stocking them are part of the dixons group. Whats more annoying was i went for this notebook over a advent - packard bell because i didnt trust the brands. So when i do get the call from Pcworld saying it back from philips it will be an interesting conversation! |

From: James | posted: 04.01.2006 09:45 Touchpad fix. The touchpad on my X50 seems to fail after a while. Closing and opening the lid seems to fix it but very annoying. However, I have since bought a small mouse (Logitech Notebook mouse) and ever since installing the logitech drivers the touchpad works perfectly. Must be some sort of driver issue. If you're having a dodgy time I suggest trying installing an external mouse. james at redsnapper dot net |

From: ktruffles | posted: 05.01.2006 23:51 thanks Ixion, that worked prefectly. Computer is still working really well-nothing bad to say-my battery is actually lasting over 3 hours. The touchpad is difficult to get used to, but you just have to touch it REALLY gently and it works very efficiently. |

From: David Y | posted: 08.01.2006 23:26 I bought a Philips X50 from PC World too, it's a fantastic machine, but I may have made a bit of a mistake...I FDisked it before I stopped to think and the backup I made prior to that didn't work, so I lost all the software that came pre-installed (everything as it doesn't really come with anything on CD). If anyone doesn't mind, perhaps they might Email me any and all drivers which I understand are stored on the Philips X50s C: drive under applications or tools -> drivers or something like that. I've managed to locate graphics and wireless drivers, and windows itself picked up the LAN and audio drivers, but cannot find any others, as there's no list which references what items are inside the machine, no list on either the Philips, PC World or PC Service Call web site. If someone else who has this laptop wouldn't mind, then please Email me the drivers, zipped, rared, any way you like, to davidy AT unforgettable DOT com For it's size & price it's amazingly well specced. It even runs a couple of 3D DX9 games, albeit with few bells and whistles. A dual layer/format burner, 60GB hard disk and built in wireless, USB2 and memory card reader makes it very useful for travelling, and carrying around, and it's so light too. A great machine....if you don't delete everything on the C: drive at least ;) |
