From: Andy | posted: 17.01.2006 08:56 Hi, bought one of these late last year, and it's a fantastic product. Touchpad has been fine, but it seems to heat up quickly. Also when watching a film about half way through the image starts freezing and the disk jumps. Could this be due to the heat?! Anyone else experience this? |

From: John | posted: 18.01.2006 18:39 Hi I have just bought my X50 from PC world and did the same as someone else here, I formated the HDD and the backup disk did not work, So I bought and installed my own O/S xp and I then had to beg, steal and borrow over the following two days, until a nice person on PC cover has agreed to send me a copy of the drivers (in the next day or so),. My next problem is, as a photographer, I need all day use from my X50, hence the need for a second battery, a further two days of searching and guess what?!? No way Jose', Anyone know where I can buy a spare battery. |

From: Chris | posted: 20.01.2006 09:04 The X50 is a rebadged Twinhead 12D, I've used the drivers from Twinheads Australian Support Page on http://www.twinhead.com.au/downloads.asp?MainCategory=Twinhead%2012D |

From: TAH | posted: 20.01.2006 18:41 I want to buy my daughter (age 10) a laptop and was impressed at the X50 for its price vs weight. I was a little concerned that I haven't seen many Philips laptops on the market then I found this site. One of the postings says it's not even Philips and is a rebranded chassis. What does that mean? Does anyone have any more info? |

From: Chris | posted: 22.01.2006 10:41 Philips don't actually make PCs directly, full stop. It's not unusual for major asian brands to rebadge their products with a locally regarded manufacturer, it's just industry practice and nothing to worry about. The only downside I can find here is that I can't actually find any independent reviews of the Twinhead Stylebook 12D which is what this machine actually is. If anyone does, please post |

From: Fiji | posted: 26.01.2006 14:01 I went to PC world to have a look at the Sony Viao and stumbled across the 'PHILIPS X50. On first inspection it is quite impressive and at half the price of a Viao, I think I am warming to it. Apart from the touhcpad, has anyone experienced any other niggles? I need a laptop that is fairly quiet, (my current Acer Aspire 1310 runs like a jet engine). I also need a laptop that would not burn a hole in my leg during use. Any advise from current users of the X50? |

From: karl | posted: 30.01.2006 11:17 I purchased the X50 on 21/01/2006 along with a belkin wireless modem/route. Got home and set the belkin up with my main hardwired PC with no problems. I then tried to get the X50 to connect to the internet wirelessly and had nothing but problems. The X50 would connect to the internet when hardwired into the modem/route. PC world telephone support would not help me because I did not purchase their after care support package. I contacted the store were I purchased the X50 and was told that it might be an idea to try a different brand of modem/route. So I decided to try the BT brand. I set this up and had the same problems as with the belkin. I went back to the PC world branch with the X50 and the BT modem/route and one of the tec guys sat down and went through many different set up procedures and kept saying that it was a software issue. After sitting in the store for about 2 hours the conclusion was that there was a hardware problem with the X50 so they exchange it for me. Got the new X50 back home and I have had no more problems. It worked straight away. The tec guy at PC world told me the technical term for the X50 problem was that it was not communicating wirelessly with a DNS server. Don't for the life of me ask what that means as I have no idea. I am just glad that the first X50 had a hardware fault and it proves that I was not being a idiot during my original set up. Going on to what some other people have posted with regard to the DVD back up that you carry out during the initial set up procedures on the X50. Would I be right is saying some drivers do not get backed up? What are they and what sould I do? I can be contacted via email (karl1 AT tanoga DOT com) |

From: Kartel | posted: 31.01.2006 18:14 Yup pick up an X50 had the same touchpad issue and some bad clusters on my drive! took it back to P.c World exchanged no problem second works fine on the odd time the touchpad starts doing it's own thing, all over the place a power off sorts that out and it works good for a long while. Good machine nice and light and bright screen, just look out for touchpad faults when u get it home. Use twinhead 12d drivers if your missing any.. Peace |
