From: Wyvern | posted: 11.03.2006 18:03 It's a quiet notebook, the fan only activates when needed to rapidly cool the CPU. Only on occasionally and briefly during normal use. Doesn't get hot, provided you keep the fan intake on the bottom clear - don't put it on a duvet / cushion etc and expect it to stay cool! As already mentioned, the RAM slots do not appear to be accessible without complete deconstruction of the casing, and without knowing the procedure I am not risking damaging the case. |

From: Kartel | posted: 12.03.2006 18:24 For all u Doubters just unscrew the first four on the front underside of the laptop. there is a line above wireless switch and audio jacks, this where the laptop pulls apart use your nails to grip it from the right corner. You don't need too destroy the casing or fully pull it off as others are claiming, the slot is under the xp sticker. the nearest one is free as the other one has one 512 mod in the slot, but if you think i'm messing about then take it to a shop but i have 1.5GB of ram and you don't. |

From: Wyvern | posted: 29.03.2006 10:15 Ah, thankyou Kartel - those directions were more useful :-) As he says, undo the front four screws; I also undid the two on the side with the USB ports. You will then be able to gently prise up the right hand side of the upper casing along the join. Do this gently, there is a clip just to the left you can pop in with a small screwdriver. The case in no way opens, but you can gently bend the plastic enough to slide in and seat your upgrade RAM - fortunately the empty slot faces towards you. |

From: Sean | posted: 03.04.2006 01:14 I have had my X50 for a number of months with zero problems off any kind, I am now running 1GB of ram this really improves this little laptops performance, I did the upgrade myself, you simply remove the screws from the base (take note of where they originate as they are different sizes) gentley seperate the leading edge down the right hand side and at the front, you will find the ram socket bottom right hand corner next to the USB2 sockets, be careful and its quite an easy job, just take your time, next job is to replace the hard drive with a 100GB 7200rpm (the installed drive spins at 4200rpm which really affects the performance!) will let you know how that goes! From: pete | posted: 14.04.2006 23:46 hi chrisj, to get spare batteries, you need to speak to the business arm of pcworld look on www.pcwb.com for their number and ask about a replacement battery. thanks |

From: iakovos | posted: 15.04.2006 11:33 Hi I bought the X50 before reading the postings of the forum and before reading any postings at any forum at all. So the touchpad was faulty. The option enable tapping does not work. That is the only problem so far (but I have not made great use of the machine because I have a second one which I mainly use. So there might be other problems I have not noticed.) |
