From: Andrew | posted: 13.07.2006 10:26 Hi Bought x50 few days ago Sometimes, depending on other factors, heat may cause unnormal operation in devices (as always expected), but no problems noticed until now (hope to ramain that way...) Only 2 FAQS for the moment: 1. Previous posts for unsuccessful reinstall refer to those cds prompted to create (only once) for system recovery? (I took separately a back up of that folder containing drivers and tools.) 2. What about that thin plastic cover on the screen? Should peal ? Must not peal? doesn't mind? and a overall comment: I think these products are Philips' first steps to enter home pc market in a cautious way. Gives the name (a well selling and prestigious brand name) to rebadge an already existing product, retails it through his partners' existing store chains, takes no and further responsibility to directly support it - leaves that on his partners, waits for feedback and makes action plans for the future But either that way, when one gives his name after a product customers unconsciously link that product to that brand, for which they expect to stand up to their expectations Hope that soon these products will be fully promoted and supported officially by Philips |

From: Chris | posted: 15.08.2006 13:37 Andrew. I too was confused about the plastic film over the screen, whether it was for permanent protection or designed for removal. Peel off the tape running down the side, it is much better being less reflective, and now it's obvious to me that this is the intention. |

From: arcuser | posted: 05.02.2007 17:23 I also have a Philips X50 and for a long time have been considering changing the Hard Drive... this seems to be quite a difficult operation though. Currently inside is a 60GB, probably a 4200RPM as others have stated - but am wanting to use a 160GB 5400RPM. When I think about this though, would this be a good idea? Maybe the 5400RPM may generate too much heat? Apart from this, I'm having great trouble getting access to the HD inside the X50, I think it is located just behind the USB ports (but can't quite see), and even after unscrewing all screws and trying to prize the X50 open, still can't get at the HD without trying to lift the actual circuit board which isn't wanting to move much. Anyone any ideas? |

From: Kartel | posted: 06.02.2007 00:31 Have you removed the screws under the keyboard, also don't forget to disconnect the wireless by the heat sink (black and grey wires). The hard drive is under the usb ports its real hard work getting to it. Also mine has just stoped booting the blue power light comes on but nothing happens i mean nothing not even the fan stars up. Ideas? |

From: arcuser | posted: 06.02.2007 16:19 I thought there was maybe a screw under the keyboard - possibly right in the centre? I couldn't get the keypad/keys lifted though to get at it. I am guessing I have to lift the keypad somehow? Do I have to remove all the keys one by one? Also, is there a screw under the heatsink/beside the fan, as I can't get the casing lifted after this point, it seems to be sticking as if something is screwed in there. I don't see the "wireless" by the heat sink, where exactly is it plugged into? Blue power light but nothing starting - did you remember to plug everything you removed back in? Maybe your HD is dead? |

From: arcuser | posted: 06.02.2007 16:21 'The hard drive is under the usb ports its real hard work getting to it.' By the way I should have said, my main problem at the minute is actually getting the circuit board lifted to get underneath it and at the hard drive! Any suggestions? |
