From: John | posted: 25.03.2001 14:43 I dont know if this is within the scope of this forum, but i'll try: I'm not a techie, so, motherboards seem to be rated by a figure eg p100, p330 etc. Is this a speed rating in mhz and if so to what does it refer. What is it making go faster (or slower). And while I'm her, ditto for cpu's, what is it that is being made to go faster? Can anyone help? Thank you for your patience. John |

From: Alex | posted: 29.03.2001 15:25 MHz = megahertz = millions of cycles per second. With PC motherboards and processors it refers to the speed with which instructions are processed (i.e. numbers crunched). The processor speed is (usually) faster than the motherboard main speed by a significant factor, so the processor can perform multiple instructions per motherboard clock cycle. Or, to put it another way, faster is better! Alex |
