From: Chris | posted: 03.03.2006 16:00 I am buying a new computer (AMD Athlon 64 X2-4200+ Dual Core) and would like some advice on which Graphics Card to purchase. I am looking to spend up to £130 for one. Can anyone tell me whats the best one for that price? From reading reviews the "XFX Geforce 6600GT" and "GeCube X800 GTO" come off well but its very confusing as there are so many variations (128/256, DDR2/DDR3??) and my knowledge of them is slim. It will probably be going onto a "ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe PCI Express" Motherboard, accompanied by 1024 DDR400 of Ram. Also, would it be better to have 2 cheaper cards running together in SLI Configuration rather than 1 more expensive card? e.g. 2 x 256 nVidea Geforce 6600LE. Any help would be much appreciated. |

From: atkoj | posted: 10.03.2006 01:04 The 6800GS seems to be absolutely the best way to go right now if you're sticking to that kind of budget. All the cards from different manufacturers are, frankly, very similar. Unless you can get a review on the individual card then I'd suggest you just buy the cheapest 6800GS you can find (make sure it's a proper 6800GS by comparing the specs, particularly clock speeds, to the ones on the nVidia website - sometimes manufacturers churn out underclocked substandard parts and think they can get away with selling them as the real deal) |

From: RobTheRover | posted: 20.03.2006 01:54 I got a X2 3800+ system, with a x800GTO in it, and it runs really well. All the games I play, including CoD2 and FarCry look amazing and run very smoothly with high settings and a resolution of 1440x900 on my widescreen monitor. The x800GTO can also be flashed to unlock 4 extra pixel pipelines, effectively making it a X850XT at a fraction of the price. I'm looking to do this soon on mine. For the price, its a very nicely performing card. |
