Fault diagnosis

One of our locally built desktop machines running W.98 has suddenly developed a “two-tone” warning bleep as soon as the boot process starts. It then loads ok and operates as expected but will not shut down completely; it seems to go into a suspended state of hibernation. None of our local dealers are able to help simply listening to it. Anyone have any suggestions where I might find an interpretation of the various warning bleeps?
