From: Jenny | posted: 05.04.2006 09:18 Hi I was impressed by this as well, but the guy in pc world said that philips were bringing out a new one in a few weeks so the X51 would drop in price. Still tempted though, has th looks of a powerbook but £300 cheaper! |

From: David Hobbs | posted: 05.04.2006 14:14 Hi again, I've actually got my screen flicker to go away. I found that if you set the brightness higher (key [Fn]+[F7]) then the problem goes away totally. If you have the brightness set at one of the lower settings you get the flicker, but if you go higher then it goes away. I'm sure that this will give me a lower battery life, but it's better than a headache! |

From: Lewis | posted: 09.04.2006 13:57 I am trying to calibrate the battery and need to get into the BIOS Setup Utility which apparently you do by pressing the DEL key. I 've tried everything I can think of assuming initially that they meant the Delete key but to no effect. Can anyone help please. Thanks. |

From: Lee G | posted: 10.04.2006 12:54 I have had my X51 for about 2 weeks now. I noticed the flicker as well (particularly in Word) but as I was upgrading to XP Pro didn't worry about it - but it kept doing it afterwards as well! Went to the Intel web site and got the latest driver: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel915gm/ and have not had the problem since. Mine gets a bit warm as well - not exactly hot but noticable - but I will live with it because I like the keyboard, the bright screen and generally how nice it looks. Very quick for what it is as well!! |

From: chris | posted: 10.04.2006 16:53 I have owned both the x50 and x51 and i must say it has been an absolute nightmare in both cases. the x50 had the touchpad issues followed by other issues resulting in the x50 being replaced with an x51, now after 2 weeks the x51 is going the same way. I agree it's a great looking piece of kit, but what good is that when it does'nt perform |

From: John Harrison | posted: 11.04.2006 14:13 Bought the X51 a couple of weeks ago. Super glossy screen - 1024x 768 so you don't need to scroll pages on the internet.Comprehensive manual, Windows XP Home Edition and Works 8 supplied on disks as well as being installed with other software. Pop a CD into the drive and you can immediately watch a film or listen to music with good quality sound. Small enough to be taken anywhere and a 3 1/2 hour battery. Star quality looks and light weight. Perfect for my requirements and great to use. Just one question, what is the black tube 35mm long, 15mm in diameter packed in a plastic bag ? It is't on the contents list, and I can't see a use for it. |

From: Stormcrow | posted: 11.04.2006 17:41 The black plastic thing is contains magnets. I cant remember what it does, but i think it is something todo with electromagnetic fields. If you look on the white power lead about a inch or so from the bit that plugs into the laptop you will se a pre-molded one on the lead. one thing I have noticed is that the touchpad is not the most sensitive in the world. Anyone else had touchpad problems |

From: Chris | posted: 13.04.2006 17:14 Hi..The touchpad seems to be a bit of a lottery with the x50/ x51, thex50 i had, had a touchpad that liked to do it,s own thing, the x51 i have now is much better but is still a bit temperamental, (pc world do seem to think this is just a characteristic of these models when i took mine in to show them.) Has anyone had a problem with their x51 swtching off for no reason, and just leaving the power and wireless lights illuminated. this is happening to me all to often and the only way to get it running again is to take the battery off, unplug it and start again..thanks. |
