From: Brecht | posted: 05.12.2006 11:58 Guys, Just looking at the packaging of mine and it came in a brown outer box (pc world) on which there is a label saying that the supplier is "Twinhead International Corp" on the side is another label giving the suppliers product code as. M+H12YT3*974947 Which I take to be this machine. http://www.twinhead.com.tw/product_notebook/H12Y.asp I'd say that's pretty conclusive Just thought I'd let you know in case you need drivers etc. |

From: Jassa | posted: 05.12.2006 16:25 PCWorld are very crappy at doing anything about the hibernate issue! So I suppose I will just have to try to make sure that the machine never tries to hibernate! Have not even tested to see what happens if I just go for a stand by instead! Have to say have not done much else with this machine since out of the 7 days I have had it, 4 have been with it back at PCWorld! Still apart from the hibernate issue the machine really does seem like a very good little purchase and would be perfect if it had not been for the hibernate issue! However one lesson to learn is not to buy from PCWorld ever! They seem to make their owns rules and laws up! You have been warned! Thanks JAS |

From: Andy Burn | posted: 05.12.2006 17:18 Looks like PCWorld are putting their prices up for xmas. Theyve stopped selling the X56, but are now selling the lesser X55(T5500 processor 1.66) for £799! What a bunch of sods! lol! Also, the Australian Twinhead site has a full set of drivers etc http://www.twinhead.com.au/downloads.asp?MainCategory=H12Y/M Maybe they'll post bios updates in future. Cheers, Andy |

From: Andi | posted: 05.12.2006 19:18 KB, if you manage to source batteries let us know. Would be interested in a spare. @ginette999, run the battery thingy (oh how techincal!) in bios, should help things a little. Also, its worth making sure you dont plug laptops back into the mains when partially discharged. Can reduce the battery life :) |

From: chris | posted: 05.12.2006 21:03 I'm looking to use the x56 for playing games amongst other things. How well does it perform whilst playing games such as Half life2 etc. Can the shared graphics cope? Should I be looking at something else? Thanks for any replies, they would be much appreciated. chris |

From: j pollins | posted: 06.12.2006 08:22 sue, plug x56 into mains and leave it connect. switch on machine and immediately hold down delete button, top rihjt hand corner. as machine loads it will go into bios. you will see a completely different, non-xp-looking screen appear. looks like a dos screen, old and decrepped - lol. as soon as you see a screen that makes you say what the h... is that take your finger off the delete button. then follow instructions. once again though make sure you are 'fully charged' to reduce the overall time spent looking at a screen telling you you it has charged then discharged then charged again - very boring. and it still only discharged to 3% or so then charged to 97%. i recommend you discharge battery normally by using it until it's out of power then charge = 100% joe ps, can you imagine a car manufacturer building a car selling it with a tank of petrol and then finding out it's special petrol and you can't find anymore - welcome to x56 battery search |

From: j pollins | posted: 06.12.2006 08:29 i emailed royal philips as i couldn't see anything that said they made laptops, on their web site. they got back to me stating they would have to forward my enquiry - batteries - to a special department. never got back to me. i think they were surprised their name was being used on this laptop. why should pcworld sell the same items, eg, x56, as dixons.co.uk, but more expensive and charge for delivery too, when it's the same company and the x56 was specially built for dsg? for what's worth, i cannot fault dixons.co.uk on price, delivery charge = £0 and delivery via dhl, but maybe you have to live on an island in the middle of the irish sea, and not on the mainland - not logical though! off to look at twinhead's dutch site joe |

From: Andy Burn | posted: 06.12.2006 14:34 Chris, This laptop is not for games at all, although it can manage quake3 at lower resolutions. Finding a small laptop with an embedded/dedicated ATI/NVIDIA gfx chipset wont be easy and think ££££s. There are plenty larger laptops that may suit at reasonable prices (Acer sell some cheap ones) . For performance laptops, take a look at RockDirect Best Wishes, Andy |

From: BobsterLobster | posted: 06.12.2006 16:21 Just took one of these back to Curry's and got a replacement, as it wouldn't respond from Hibernating. Power button did nothing, even if held in for 20 seconds. Removing battery and putting it back in didn't do anything. Last night, I had to press the power button quite a few times to switch back on, today... dead. Hope this one's okay! |
