From: KB | posted: 12.12.2006 17:48 Re message posted by 'Bob'. PCservicecall = The Tech Guys = DSG! Could it be that Bob represents DSG (we'd like to know Bob - a real human contact at DSG would be welcomed here)? In any case expensive phone calls (up to £1.50/min!), even IF they're VERY good, are not an appropriate solution for a brand new machine with problems. Re battery: I finally got an email response from Philips consumer dept. Couldn't give an email address for PC Dept but gave a phone number (which doesn't work!). Eventually spoke to a Philips person (in Holland I think) who agreed that the Philips name is just a branding exercise and Philips are not involved, but gave me another website. It was: www.pcservicecall.co.uk = THE TECH GUYS = DSG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just can't get away from them! Great machines at a great price, but before you buy consider whether you're prepared to be dependant on DSG's 'backup' which others in this string appear to have found seriously wanting. Looks like my link to Hong Kong for a battery is the best lead yet. Crazy thing is this is lost profit potential to DSG. Re Vista upgrade: Having failed to find a link to register on PC World's site as previously advised I went back to PC World and got yet another story. Gave me this address but said he didn't know if it is working yet: www.windowsvista.com/getready. Haven't looked yet but don't hold your breath. |

From: Bob | posted: 13.12.2006 10:30 No, I'm not a DSG rep. I'm having the same hibernate/suspend problems myself :( I thought I'd point those numbers out in case people haven't noticed them. |

From: Al | posted: 13.12.2006 13:51 For the hibernation problem, has anyone tried this? Open the Windows Control Panel. Double-click Power Options. Click the Hibernate tab, de-select the 'Enable hibernate support' check box, and then click Apply. Restart your computer and hiberfil.sys will be automatically deleted. |

From: Jonathan | posted: 15.12.2006 13:21 Finally!! Someone ELSE who has nearly lost their Pro Duo :-)... Mine just kept going deeper and deeper everytime i touched it with the tweezers! LOL. Let me know if you work out how to use the card reader, i havn't yet.. And i've got to say i'm not having any of the Hibernate/Suspent problems that other people on this board are having, mine wakes up perfectly every time. |

From: ThunderBolt | posted: 15.12.2006 14:55 Memory card... Some cards fit perfect... SD for example. For the Duo cards you WILL need an adapter. Have a look on ebay or play.com or any other place. Good chance you'll find one for a few quid! |

From: Mark | posted: 16.12.2006 22:02 In a possible answer to the spare battery problem for the X56... Currys sell a spare battery for Philips laptop models X30/50/51, at £59.99 online. It's made by Twinhead and it's model number is F12DT3. Could it be that this battery also fits the X56, and that they just haven't updated the supported models list yet? Here's the weblink anyway: http://www.partmaster.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=1233681& section=107870&brand=Philips&model=X50&path=79916,79917,79974,107870 If anyone knows for certain, I'd like to know too! |

From: CJ | posted: 17.12.2006 00:49 Hello, I would just like to say I am an employee of DSGi and have just recently bought a Philips x56 myself. I know someone earlier said they would like to hear from someone from DSG themselves. Well here I am, and after looking into/selling these things myself Im pretty sure I can help out with at least a few of your questions. |
