From: Miriam | posted: 05.01.2007 16:28 Hello, I wonder if anyone is experiencing the same problem. Almost every time i turn this laptop on the Philips Media Manager starts downloading updates. I find it a bit odd that it happens so often. Any advice? Thanks a lot and HAPPY NEW YEAR :) |

From: Lee | posted: 05.01.2007 18:06 Victoria, I have previously done the Crucial Scan and as reported above it states that there are 4 slots with 1 taken up with 1gig, which personally I find hard to believe as desktops tend to only have 2 slots. The type is PC2-4200 and you can get them on eBay from here: http://listings.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsocmdZListingItemList?sofocus=unknown&sbrftog=1 &catref=C3&from=R2&socmd=ListingItemList&satitle=& sacat=1480%26catref%3DC6%26curcat%3Dtrue&a41840=52506 &a6=52474&a12=-24&a52534=52492&a14=-24&a10244=-24&alist=a3801%2Ca41840%2Ca6%2Ca12%2Ca52534 %2Ca14%2Ca10244&pfmode=1&reqtype=2&gcs=2042 &pfid=3027&pf_query=&sargn=-%26saslc%3D3&sadis=200 &fpos=Postcode&ga10244=10425&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo= &saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare &copagenum=1&coentrypage=search &fgtp= I have just purchased 1gig RAM off eBay but its still to arrive. I opened the back of the computer up and I am certain there are two slots, as stated on a website I read. Unfortunately, the slot 0 is above slot 1 and as memory the 1gig is in slot 0, to apply the new memory you would need to take out the 1gig that is pre-installed. As far as games go, I'm currently able to play Quake 4 which was used as a benchmark for games until Half Life 2 was released. Quake 4 runs really well, although I was unable to install it in Vista due to a conflict with Office which I couldn't be bothered looking into. Hope this is of help, Feel free to ask me any more questions Lee |

From: Ollie | posted: 08.01.2007 15:19 MJ The reason it is on but the screen is blanck may be because you turned the screen off, to turn it on hold the blue button on the bottom left of the screen and press one of the F# keys which has a picture of two squaes overlaping |

From: Rico | posted: 09.01.2007 19:23 Lee..... I think you'll find that there isn't a slot under the currently installed ram chip. My X56 went belly up today (suddenly) so nipped the back off and slipped out the ram out to look. It looks like a second slot at first glance but isn't as covered with wires from ram chip connectors above it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news there. Anyways - mine failed to boot today and ended up slipping in the recovery disk to set disk up again. This failed to work so booted off another disk as it appeared there was no hard disk activity. All that could be found was the recovery partition (now labeled 'C') and nothing else. Took it back to PC World tonight as less than two weeks old and got a refund. Their expert opinion was that it was s*****d!! Shame really, as it was a nice little laptop. I'll look elsewhere now though know I'll have to spend more to get one of similar size. Good luck all. |

From: MikeM | posted: 09.01.2007 20:20 Still delighted with my X56 ! Assuming satisfactory upgrade to Vista (when available) and its promised support of flash memory cards as additional system memory could the media reader slot be used for such purposes ? If so, then what card format would be best do we suppose ? |
