From: Rico | posted: 18.01.2007 17:04 Bobby - no problem!! If you decide to do a fresh install of your OS from say the disk you downloaded, then it may be as well to have the SATA drivers handy. Either on a USB floppy drive or maybe even something as simple as one of those USB dongle things? Not really sure and perhaps someone may comment regards the SATA drivers. I do know with a virgin disk you will defo need them as the XP install will fall over straight away, reporting it unable to find your hard disk! Yes you can only copy the disc once though I copied the actual DVD disc again with Nero (on my desktop machine) and it seemed to work when tested. There is nothing to stop you getting Acronis True Image (10 now I think) and either doing a clone or image of your hard disc to another HD connected via USB caddie as a backup. This works very well and can have a faulty OS back up in no time. It's a nice machine really and a pity mine broke. Wasn't overly confident of much support from PC-W so took a refund. Had to spend more to buy a Dell XPS M1210 which is of similar proportions to the X56. Nice machine :) Best of luck |

From: Pete | posted: 18.01.2007 20:45 Re: Neil The paint on the touchpad of my x56 is wearing too. It is quite annoying, I have used it rather a lot, but it still isn't good for something that is a couple of month's old. |

From: Sam | posted: 19.01.2007 14:11 Purchased my x56 a few weeks back now and am pleased. Just a few bits n bobs: 1. Can someone provide me with a link for a spare battery - Looked on partmaster and no battery shown for x56 model 2. Is there a docking station available for this? - Can't see anything on net 3. When I first used it I was prompted to back up and just kept ignoring, now I don't get the message and want to back up - Can someone tell me where I go about doing this? 4. Finally, my fella was "playing" and has managed to delete the System Tools form the Start menu - Can anyone tell me how to restore this? Nothing shown in Trash Thanks in advance wizkids Sam x |

From: Marc | posted: 22.01.2007 16:51 Rico, Still no joy with my wireless issue. If the wireless adaptor has packed up I assume this isnt something I can repair and it needs to go away to be looked at ? Another thing that has happened over the last couple of days is that the battery seems to be giving up. I normally leave the machine on overnight and let it go into standby when it wants to, when I use it in the morning I can wake it up by hitting the space bar....past couple of mornings the laptop is dead, ie no battery life despite being almost fully charged the night before. I can see this ending up on ebay before long. |

From: fruitbat1uk | posted: 23.01.2007 03:39 Superb little machine. Quality feel and superb size/weight. I was suspicious of Phillips as a laptop unknown but bought it anyway. I was looking for a cheap laptop for a friend and ended up coming out of PC World (I know, I know!) with this little Phllips X56. £649 (Not until January 2008!) 1gb Ram, Core2 Duo Processor, excellent screen, great wireless access etc. etc. Can't recommend higher really, especially if you have to travel with a laptop, which was my primary driving factor after carrying around military weight Dells etc! The later model X55 was £100 more and the only thing I could see better was a larger HD. Slower processor too. Probably get them cheaper now too - only thing comaprable was Sony Vaio at over 200 quid more (and bigger/heavier too) Buy one! |

From: jen | posted: 23.01.2007 20:39 Marc I had probs with the wireless connection not being recognised, even after setting up system etc etc it would work a couple of times and then drop out again. even had signal checked and other machine was working fine so know it wasnt a signal prob. when it did work it preferred to pick up another signal in the area (not protected!!) next door I think. This was a the same time as the sound issues see earlier messages. The complete system recovery back to original settings advised by tech guys at PCW seems to have sorted it out. although it was to fix the sound problem, it also fixed other gliches including the wireless might be worth giving it a try Jen |
