From: Neil Ryan | posted: 24.01.2007 08:03 Hi All.. Just some Info that i have got and my own experiece. The X56 is the H12Y from Twinhead and spare batteries can be got from partsmaster by looking up a model that shares the same shell such as the x55 etc. It will run Vista Premium as it has Intel GMA 950 graphics on a Intel 945GM chipset. It will take 2GB So-DIMM, there is only one usable slot. The memory card reader can be used for Memoryboost in Vista with an compatable Memory card (SD ETC) I have created a copy of the Restoration CD if anyone has lost their's that i will post if you send me blnk DVD. THis will restore the recovery partition on your HDD so you can restore by pressing F10. If you want create multiple copies of your Restore CD, run the create restore cd applcaiton without a dvd in the drive. Once it asks for a DVD open C:\Temp and copy the ISO file out of the folder, you can burn this ISO File as many times as you like. Make sure you have two copies of your restore CD. Myself i have two and the ISO on two HDD's one in work and one on my home NAS. The DVD is only a 2.4x (ALL Formats) writer. The HDD is SATA, Currently i am Dual Booting Vista Home Premium and XP MCE 05 if you want XP Pro you can upgrade from within MCE to it thus avoiding the SATA Drivers issue. Driver and Applications are located under C drive and can be copied off from there. Regards Neil Ireland. |

From: Mario | posted: 25.01.2007 00:07 Hi Folks, Just to clear this up - Vista is having it launch on the 31th of January and being available to purchase from the 1st of February. If you have bought a system from DSG ect chances are unless told by staff, on the receipt or the laptop has a vista capible logo on the laptop you wont be able to upgrade to Vista for a few quid! The minimum spec for running Vista is: 30GB Hard drive (Installing Vista alone takes up 9GB 1GB of RAM 256 Shared graphics card minimum better with a dedicated card. If you have the above on your system it'l work fine anything less and it will be slower then a stamped of snails going through penut butter! In regards to buying things off DSG, i worked for Dixons (Ireland) for 2 years, and we had to do a heap load of training before we could sell anything - Im good with computers technically so i sold loads and never has any complaints. People in here are right, alot of staff dont know what there talking about but its not there fault for eg.... I ran the PC sections, another person would run the camera section - if i was off the camera guy would have to try sell a PC and not a have a clue what they were talking about - What people also sont take into account - some staff, like when i worked there i was trained on everything from PC's, to camera's. to camcorders to MP3's and alot more thats alot of stuff to remember and learn so think of that the next time.... People are right in saying there polocies are shit to be honest because they are - Also when i did work there i was placed in different stores and the lied i heard on a daily basis was gas - Alot of them are young students who dont have a clue! Got to admire there lying skills tho.... The X56 is sound laptop - I have one myself - Only difference is someone bought it for me - If you ask me - People are stupid to spend money on a product built by a company most people have never heard of and then a lable slapped on by a company trying to take the credit for it thats asking for trouble - If i were anyone buying a laptop - I would buy from direct from Dell, Toshiba ect wouldnt never use DSG or any retail store for that matter. There are 2 things i have noticed with this laptop - I have the screen set to turn off, nothing else just the screen and the windows plays the turning on/off sound yet its still on.... Also if you leave a disk in the DVD drive, every 20 mins or so it will scan it and ask you what to do with it, you click cancel 20 mins later same thing.... Other then that nada.... Oh and for the users that like to sit the laptop on there lap.... DONT, it has now been proven that harmful radiation comes from laptops, all laptops that can cause cancer, so leave it on the desk. Also, anyone thinking of upgrading to Vista, get the Media Centre version or 'Premium' as they call it as there trying to phase out the replacement for XP Home 'Vista Basic'.... I work for a major computer name, cant say who, but if i can be of any help to anyone please let me know. Mario Ireland |

From: Leon Cook | posted: 31.01.2007 19:36 If anyone is interested I have a brand new Infineon 2GB 533 MHz SO-DIMM that is surplus to requirements. Specs are : 2GB (256M x 64) HYS64T256022HDL-3.7-A PC2-4200S-444-11-D0, DDR2 533 MHz, 200 PIN I bought it to upgrade my X53 a week ago but ended taking the Laptop back for various different reasons. These SO-Dimms are retailing at over £400 and all I am looking for is £200 to make some money back to put towards a new desktop system. If anyone is interested you can email me at 'leon.cook at btopenworld.com' I can email you pictures if you want and I can give you my ebay account to check my reputation. |

From: TRIXXY | posted: 04.02.2007 09:27 All I did was email a scanned copy of my receipt. Think the european office you send it to is in Holland. After you email them your receipt you get a confirmation email back off them. Have no idea how long its gonna take them to ship the copies of vista out to people. I'm not expecting it anytime soon! |
