From: Dave Adamson | posted: 22.02.2007 16:13 Hi Just a few things based on past messages that have popped up. The warranty, from what I understand, is dealt with via the appropriate Dixons Stores helpline, so there's no need to register it via Philips. If you have a problem, you can ring the helpline number (on your receipt or on the leaflet that you should have been handed.) The laptop, to the best of my knowledge and by general consensus, has 1 memory slot, meaning you'll have to ditch the 1GB to upgrade to more. Various suggestions, and a few diagnostic tools, seem to think that the machine has anywhere up to 4 slots, but nobody has found the addition slots - it is likely that they don't exist. I'm not sure about Sims 2, but I'm sure I got the first Sims running on my laptop. Can you not borrow a copy to give it a test or find a store that will allow you to return it should it prove to be incompatible? My trackpad has a white patch on it. Don't suppose anyone knows what type of paint I can use to cover it up? I assume it is painted! I wouldn't mind, but I've only had my laptop since December! Another annoying thing is that the edges of the laptop (around teh screen and around the keyboard are beginning to look scuffed! Heard nothing about the Vista upgrade either, having emailed a scan of my receipt and got no confirmation. The website for moduslink says that they have verified my COA, but that's all. Anyway, hope the advice helps someone. Until next time. |

From: jonathanmusto | posted: 23.02.2007 08:34 I've got COA Verified too, no shipping date though. Moduslink are really slack about this, after paying £16.10 P&P I would certainly expect better! |

From: Dave Adamson | posted: 26.02.2007 19:11 I've heard nothing either. I have to agree that 16.10 for packing and posting is a bit... extortionate. I know that the product is "free" but unless they are posting me a housebrick, I can't see how 16.10 covers it! I bet, when it arrives, it's just a CD/DVD! Not only that, it's not like it costs £15.00 exc. postage to pack the thing! |

From: Claire Dob | posted: 26.02.2007 21:36 OK so got half way through my free vista order then gave up. When I tried again my COA is no longer valid so I guess it remembers it from the first time. Any ideas what to do? Looking at the posts emailing modulink or whatever their name is won't get me anywhere.. |

From: Kevin | posted: 01.03.2007 23:56 Claire, I had the same problem, I emailed them and they did actually respond in a few days and release the COA so I could re-register it. I'm still waiting for my order to go from validated to shipped. I emailed my receipt as a scanned image in January. I emailed them and the response was that they were hoping to start shipping at the end of feb with deliveries withing 6 weeks... for £16.00 that is a rip off - I've bought items from the states on eBay before, paid £4 postage and had them in one or 2 days. |

From: ThunderBolt | posted: 03.03.2007 21:45 Finally got an email back from them... Not read it properly yet, just piddled off about the £16 P&P charge. Do they send it in a Black Box recorder case or something. I'm usually a VERY principal led person so was thinking of staying with MCE just so as not to pay the scum bag rip off merchants £15 for nowt. But... As I'm sure is the case with many, couldn't resist being one of the first to get Vista and tell everyone else how to use it when thy eventually get it. Looks like I'll be one of the last at this rate! £16 for a 3rd class stamp... I reckon some sod's taking the proverbial!!! |

From: Stuart | posted: 04.03.2007 15:28 I contacted the upgrade centre a couple of weeks ago for a progress report. I got this by email during the week (doesn't really say a lot): Dear Customer, Thank you for contacting the Upgrade Redemption Support Centre.. Due to the great amount of proof of purchases that we receive, we cannot individually get back to each customer. However, your order is in process and you will receive a confirmation when we will start shipping your Windows Vista Upgrade. Kind Regards, The Upgrade Redemption Support Centre. |
