From: Kevin | posted: 20.11.2006 15:10 Yes, I occasionally have a problem with the wifi dropping out, the icon in the system tray changes to the connecting style (little yellow ball going back and forth), then it shows connected, then it goes to connecting again. The only way to fix it is to run a repair on the connection, its a pain, especially if in the middle of something. |

From: Chris | posted: 20.11.2006 17:06 Just bought an X56 in PC World as they were doing internet prices for this weekend and first impressions are very good - once you get rid of all the AOL stuff and download the latest updates. However, I can't find any info on the max RAM and how to upgrade. Crucial's scan system says the machine has 4 slots with one filled with a 1GB module but it can't offer an exact reading as you can't select the exact model from it's menus. Someone here said it had one slot, which sounds more feasible, but can you stick a 2GB SO-DIMM in it and how exactly do you get to the RAM... Can anyone help here? C. |

From: Ravi | posted: 21.11.2006 11:22 Hi guys, Just purchased the X56 off dixons online. Its a super little laptop, only issue I have is; very low battery life about 2 hours with wireless on all the time. I don't know how dixons can say up 4 hours. Surely wireless connection can't eat up 2 hours of extra battery life. I'm only surfing the net and not playing games or music! Laptop comes preinstalled with Windows media centre 2005. I've gone out a purchased usb tv tuner, works really well in! Only £27 Msi Mega Sky 580. Issues the bad reviews about this usb tuner, works a charm with X56 and media centre software. If using indoors connect to external aerial. Internal one supplied may only pick up 5- 16 channels indoors if your lucky. Small aerial supplied works really well when in my car.. its magnetic so I just stick to the roof of my car and picking all Free to air channels, no probs.. I have run the battery calibration from bios.. (boot up laptop press del) No difference. My laptop fan kept going off and was really loud when i first got it. I ran the fan calibration from bios.. now the fan kicks in less often and laptop is much much more quiet! Dixons onlines codes used together to really hammer the price down. Enter code: THEAA25 = This knocks off £25 then enter another code laptops40slim and knocks off another £40 = total discount of £65. |

From: Andi | posted: 21.11.2006 19:10 With regards to the "real" identification of these laptops, mine has a model number H12Y printed on on the base. This seems to tie in with the model Twinheads produce. Regarding batteries, anyone know if replacement/higher capacity batteries are available for these laptops at all? Wouldn't mind a spare/better unit. Really impressed with this one so far, it's small, light, nice and nippy in windows and the screen's great. Battery life is nice too, especially with the video and wireless in their lowest power modes. If people need laptop cases, ebuyer.co.uk have a few 12.1" bags, as to laptopstuff.co.uk |

From: John. | posted: 22.11.2006 00:27 Hi Everyone. I am planing on buying this great wee laptop over the next few days online from Currys. Can anyone tell me what software comes packed with it? does it come with a reload cd? i find this essential when buying a pc or laptop. Also will Currys offer a free upgrade to Vista when it becomes available? Many thanks for your help. Regard. John. |

From: Andi | posted: 22.11.2006 11:07 @ Ravi - Setting the wireless power right down reduces power useage LOADS. Also make sure you set the power profile to "max battery". Can get a little over 3 hours from the battery word processing and light/med net useage. |

From: hw | posted: 22.11.2006 12:27 I have emailed PC World and they wrote the following to me re the Vista upgrade: "All computers priced £399 or more and purchased between 26th October 2006 and 15th March 2007 will receive an upgrade to Windows Vista Premium. For machines under £399, Windows Vista Home Basic Edition will be offered at half price." Hopefully that helps! H |
