From: Sue | posted: 27.11.2006 06:50 Went into PC World in Kingston armed with all the documents - they simply refused to budge on this issue. They did ,however , give me the online price. I should have gone home and ordered it on the internet - but I am not blessed with patience! I love this little pc - it is great. Am not sure how to get the bios screen to callibrate the battery. Also, how much of the software is only temporary - does anyone know? Thanks for all the useful tips on this thread |

From: Joe | posted: 27.11.2006 09:26 regarding the philips x56, correct in all your comments. i've had it 2 weeks and it's excellent. totally agree with the comments about the lid, especially on opening it. no lock so you need to b careful. hope you can answer the following. the laptop came with a small square plastic coated hollow thing. it can be opened revealling two halfs of non magnets metal. the size of the hollow id such that it will fit comfortably around the mains' lead. no instructions as to what the h... it is. really bugging me. any ideas please? joe ps i paid £625 after a further promotion and free delivery via DHL to the isle of man. |

From: Alex Cruickshank | posted: 27.11.2006 09:27 Joe: that block is probably for the modem cable, to help prevent interference. |

From: j pollins | posted: 27.11.2006 15:14 you have to excuse my diabolical spelling in my original post, on nights! i spoke to someone locally who sells computers - good idea - and he said is was to stop interference from the mains cable, and equates to the built in cylindrical one that's always fitted at the end of the cable where it fits into the power input of the computer. thanks |

From: Chris | posted: 27.11.2006 21:45 Good news..so far. I just put a 2GB So-DIMM in the machine and it recognises the Ram in both the bios and Windows. It also seems to have made it a bit faster. Obviously I'll need to use it for a while to confirm full compatibility - apparently this machine has only been tested up to 1GB by DSG - but all looks good so far! Chris. |

From: Chris | posted: 27.11.2006 22:40 Just downloaded some HD quicktime clips at 720p - Ghost Rider and Pan's Labyrinth and the video tears a lot on playback - it's fast and smooth but keeps tearing. Can someone else try these and see if they get the same problem - I've even downloaded the latest Intel 950 drivers. Strangely, HD video in Media Player is fine. Chris. |

From: KB | posted: 28.11.2006 21:13 Asked at PC World about Vista upgrade and they told me to register on line at PC World for upgrade in new year. Looked on their site and can't see anything. Probably just trying to get rid of me (typical DSG) - or does anyone know any better? |
