From: Chris | posted: 28.11.2006 22:24 Apparently the site isn't fully ready yet - manufacturers will handle the upgrade for their systems (for example, HP will send out discs to people who register with HP systems) and as this is a DSG special, PC world will send people an email when the upgrade is available (and eventually a disc!). I got this from PC World PR. Meanwhile, has anyone tried HD quicktime yet? |

From: Jonathan | posted: 29.11.2006 12:28 I've downloaded a 720p xVid of Planet Earth and it looks fantastic, no tearing at all, guess its just a QT issue, not a fan of QT anyway. It's just a shame I can't connect it up to my TV, it would make a great little HC laptop! I bought a VGA -> Component lead and it didn't work, guess my TV wont accept VGA over component :-( |

From: ThunderBolt | posted: 29.11.2006 13:17 Teyrn... I would have thought vista upgrade would be available to any one buying from any DSG outlet if at least one of them has said they are doing it... Whether they do or not is indeed another matter. DSG - in particular PCWorld don't have the best track record when it comes to support and customer relations as you'll find on many a forum. So far I haven't even had a reply from Dixons online about this. And I haven't ben able to find where to to register in the first place. Or maybe I just haven't looked properly! |

From: Andi | posted: 30.11.2006 00:03 Ben, You can remove quite a bit of the bloatware via "add/remove programs" in control panel. Other things can be disabled via msconfig. Got rid of most of the junk on boot now, but it's still not great. |

From: j pollins | posted: 30.11.2006 08:54 sue, regarding the battery and fan calibration. just follow the bios screen instructions, it is easy - if i can do it anyone can, honest.just be aware, do not do it unless battery is fully charged, otherwise it will charge, then decharge (wrong word) and recharge again, can take upto 8 hours, thus if already charged you've reduced part of the process. however, if only showed 97% when fully charged at the end. i drained the battery later on to zero by normal usaged, then charged it normally and it shows 100%. fan calibration is quicker. also, due to the interesting origins of the x56, maybe twinhead, maybe aceterac, dsg etc - i have been searching for a spare battery - many online battery shops have been helping and so far no luck. it does look like a series 3200 from aceterac (i think that's how the co. is spelt, except it doesn't have the 2 little hooks on it) help? cheers joe |

From: Vicky | posted: 30.11.2006 15:25 Hi Andy, I know this is really cheeky but all of the well used and trusted codes seem not to be valid this week. Also Ive just been on the Curys web site and they have sold out, but I asked in P.C world if they would do a price match, to which they agreed if I brouhgt in the print out. This is the cheeky bit - wold you ocnsider sending me your print out, or a scan o it so that I can get it for below £600 - many thnaks, a poor student !!! |
