From: M.Lee | posted: 24.07.2001 00:40 I have a wintv stereo with radio pci card, but not completely happy with the quality. What other ones are available? and are they better than the wintv? (Pinnacle tv card, pace tv card.............) |

From: Alex | posted: 26.07.2001 09:43 Do you mean the image quality? They are rarely fantastic, as they have to cope with all the EM radiation from inside the PC. Have you tried it with an external aerial (i.e. one on the roof of your house)? Alex |

From: Mark Winder | posted: 24.08.2001 14:19 Yes, I purchased a similar card on the basis that it was cheap and was unhappy with it. Perhaps I should have done my research first and then purchased! There are at least 2 problems as far as I can see. One is that the TV card and your graphics card are very closely tied together, so closely in fact that if you have an old graphics card, the TV card will give truly appaling results, and if you don't it still won't be ideal. You can buy a graphics card that has the TV card built in, (All in one wonder card I think its called) and it seems to me that that this is certainly the way to go, but I've not seen it. And it is a LOT more expensive. The second problem is that the haupage cards rely on an analogue link to your sound card. Well that assumes that your sound card line in just happens to be free. Not only that but some of the sound transmitted with TV in the UK is very high quality, that last thing I wanted was that digital signal degraded by a short analogue link and and unnecessary d-a and a-d convertion !!! I want an audio device driver that looks like a sound card and gives me direct access to the TV sound. I believe that the haupage cards do not have hardware to support this, and I've found no-one else that does. Comments ? |
