From: Robert Ewing | posted: 27.11.2001 23:39 Hi there, Can anyone help? I have a Panasonic CF-71 Toughbook which I bought secondhand. It works OK but some of the utilities that were on it as new have been lost. I'm trying to get a copy of the original restore disk(s) that came with it. I'm not sure if it's a Mk2 or Mk3 but it has a 300MHz Pentium 2, 64 MB RAM and about 6 GB HD space. Any help will be apreciated and I'm willing to pay for the copies. Thanks Robert |

From: Joe CA | posted: 03.02.2004 19:09 Hello, I've been working with CF71's for several years and have yet to need a restore disk. You can easily find and use phdisk.exe to create a new hibernation partition. I think version 4 or something like that? I do suggest disabling Windoze APM however. Panasonic has the touchpad, video, sound drivers available for the "different" versions of CF71's. There are several model CF71's and if the label is worn off the bottom it can be tricky finding what model you really have but everything I need is available. It's tougher to install OS without a floppy cable but it can be done. |

From: Sobac Retok | posted: 26.06.2004 02:16 My CF-71 boots from CD, but the easiest way to do an install on any laptop that is uncooperative is to slave the drive into a desktop, install, sysprep (if using 2K or XP) and reinstall the drive in the laptop. BE CAREFUL with the expensive CF-71 hard drive cable and caddy assembly! |

From: Mike Curran | posted: 09.10.2004 01:17 I just picked up one of these CF-71 Toughbooks and other than the battery needing replaced it seems ok hardware wise. My dilemma is that the machine was re imaged with win 2000 and I'm trying to reload WIN 98 which seems to proceed fine till I go to restart from the hard drive. I get a fatal exception 06 0007 0000000017 I think those are the right numbers. I've found this can be a memory issue. Does anyone know if there are memory blocks that should be disabled for some reason? Any help would be nice. Even if someone has a rescue disk they want to lend/sell me. Mike |
