From: Eliza (not gifted in computers) | posted: 04.01.2002 01:35 Dear everyone, I have some troubles with my film scanner. I need toscan slides in order to print 20x30cm photos and above. My scanner driver ask me to set two resolutions for the scanning. One is for the "entry", the other is for the "exit". These resolutions are in DPI. And I can't set these values so that my files have the best resolution to work them in Photoshop....... Anyone can help? PS:My printer has a 2880 dpi max resolution. Thanks to all of you. |

From: Ian Burley | posted: 04.01.2002 22:15 You don't say what scanner you are using, but I think the 'entry' resolution is the scanning resolution and the 'exit' resolution is the setting that determines how large the scanned image will be printed at 1:1 or 100%. So let's say you scan a portion of a negative 1 inch wide at 2000dpi (in fact strictly speaking the more sensible term is ppi or pixels per inch). So the scanned image is 2000 pixels wide. If you set an output resolution of 250 dpi (ppi), the printed size at 100% will be 8 inches wide (8x250). As a guide, you ought to aim for an output resolution of around 300ppi at the size you want to print the image. Hope that helps! Ian |

From: Eliza | posted: 06.01.2002 15:23 Okay, thanks a lot. Even if everything is not clear yet... My scan is a F-2800 DImage Scan Speed (quite old it seems). In fact, my proble is that I cannot set the input and output entry like I would. And I still do not can scan slides in order to have A3 format printable files. Aren't these machines supposed to make our lives easier? |
