From: SadKate*** | posted: 01.02.2002 19:01 Hello. I've got a few questions about MIDI and soundcards that I hope some of you might be able to help with. I know a bit about MIDI, but I'm used to using Mac and now I've got a PC which I'm trying to get set up. OK. I've got about a hundred quid to spend on a MIDI compatible soundcard. Auidgy has been recommended to me - any good? Now the technical bit... I've got the following hardware already - PC, digital piano with MIDI in/out/thru sockets but only five rubbish sounds, sequencing software. I DON'T have a MIDI module. I want a sequencing setup with General MIDI or pref. General MIDI 2. Can I get a MIDI soundcard and be sorted? That is, can I buy a soundcard with GM2 sounds on it, or must they comne from a keyboard or module? Maybe I'd be best just buying a MIDI module as my present card is MIDI compatible? Lastly, my present soundcard refers to 'external wavetable' - is the wavetable the word for your set of sounds? I know these are loads of questions, but cheers in advance for any help you can give. You could also look at software midi moduals many of these you can get free. As for recomending a soundcard, it depends alot on what u need it for here are a few links that may help. http://www.audioforums.com/ http://www.futuremusic.co.uk/ http://www.computermusic.co.uk/main.asp take it easy Rosko |
