From: Janet | posted: 02.06.2002 13:52 Does anyone have a recommendation for a good backup system? Ideally I'd like to do a full backup once a week (around 30gb), supplemted by daily incremental backups. I've been looking at LaCie but not sure what software to use, is the Windows backup software any good? Main PC is a Dell running Win2000. Many thanks |

From: Cedric | posted: 11.06.2002 05:06 I just purchased a Maxtor 3000LE 40GB External USB Hard Drive w/Adaptec DuoConnect USB2.0 + Firewire PCI Card. It works okay with windows backup, I haven't tried to restore yet. I ordered a copy of the new PowerQuest Drive Image 2002 and want to see if I can image my whole internal hard drive. |

From: Alex | posted: 11.06.2002 10:52 The only problem you might have with some drives is that the software often can't restore from a boot disk, so you have to reinstall Windows before restoring your data. Not a huge pain, but still irritating. Some vendors might have worked out how to do DOS-based USB and FireWire drivers (Symantec had some for Ghost, I think), but most haven't. Alex |

From: Steve | posted: 19.06.2002 21:35 I have been looking into the same thing, only looking for more than 30GB. I have been considering the LaCie, and the Maxtor (http://www.maxtor.com/Maxtorhome.htm). I have also considered the Iomega Peerless which seems to get good reviews (but way too expensive). I just read an article about Iomega's Hard drives, 120GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive & 30GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,101471,00.asp); also: ; I like the idea that they come with backup software (QuikSync), that is supposed to be pretty good (http://www.iomega.com/direct/products/quiksync.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=7193&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=56755&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=67&bmUID=1024518458339). From what I have read the best backup software is VERITAS' Backup MyPC™ - (http://www.veritas.com/products/category/ProductDetail.jhtml;jsessionid=4SFNYAPNYTZ3TQFIYBTCFEY?productId=bedeskmypc&_requestid=72020) I haven't purchased anything yet, but I hope this helps you a little. From: Mike Goode | posted: 17.07.2002 00:07 Hi I have just purchased a Iomega 120GB USB2 to back up my XP system. From my reading and limited knowledge it would appear that I can't use a USB connected hard drive to create an image of my C drive without a DOS driver. Has anyone overcome this problem?? |

From: Tony Hunter | posted: 03.03.2006 16:00 With regard to the Maxtor backup drive am I right in thinking that not only will it backup your files and folders etc but that it will backup the whole operating system with literally just one or two clicks of a button? That's what I'm really looking for something simple and straightforward whereby if my original PC crashes I can simply attach this backup drive to a USB port and everything should go back to normal!
