From: mrthou | posted: 14.05.2004 17:28 I've been trying to fix an astro too, but haven't bought a new battery for it yet. I do however, know where it's located. On mine, it's located directly beneath the RAM, so you'll have to take that out first. Hope it helps |

From: James | posted: 05.06.2004 11:51 Does having a dead battery cause the astro to seem lifeless, as in the on/off button doesn't do anything at all? Is the battery easy to change for a reasonably competent mechanical person? Thank you. |

From: Bill Metz | posted: 29.06.2004 04:48 When i heard about replacing the cmos battery to get the com to power on and boot i thought it was just a joke. Because the cmos battery holds your settings for the bios such as TIME, CLOCK SPEED, HARD DRIVE SIZE, IRQ SETTINGS etc. In which the com would still boot if the cmos battery were dead but would set the bios to default and the time would have to be set each time you booted up. but i said to myself what the heck i'll give it a try and what do ya know it worked! I dont know how or why (and im an IT technician) but it worked. so thanks for the heads up. but in this profession your always learning something new Bill |

From: Adam Schafer | posted: 29.06.2004 07:07 I also had the problem with the computer not powering up and naturally assumed it was the power supply, but after reading this post, I replaced the CMOS battery (thanks to the person who posted its location under the RAM) and it now powers up beautifully!!! You saved me a big headache and my customer the money of a new power supply. |

From: Anthony | posted: 04.08.2005 22:00 to remove the monitor from the computer you need to remove 4 screws at aprox. each corner on the bottom. Then pull the bottom off while the unit is laying upside down. to access the motherbaord you need to remove the center screw and pull off the metal cover, then remove the 2 screws holding the hard drive and remove that. then there are 2 more screws nere the hdd slot that need to be removed and 2 larger scres on either side of the mess about in the center might be a few more but the frame that holds the hdd in and the cover plate needs to come out to be able to remove the ram, and as stated by some the battery is under the ram. I also cant get mine to turn on so I will try to remove the battery and replace it. I hope my instructions on how to get to stuff works for you all. |

From: A Nelson | posted: 08.10.2005 15:34 I also had the same problem working on a Gateway Astro. I replaced the CMOS battery just as you all predicted the pc booted but with no video. That is now my new problem I do not have any video from the pc everything internally seems to be running fine i.e. powers on and off but I am staring at a black screen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to the forum or I would have gotten a power supply ugg. |
