From: David | posted: 03.06.2000 21:42 Help! I am an absolute novice - so be gentle. I have a Sony videocamera - not digital, but a good one. I would like to find a (cheap) device/package with which I can take images (stills and sequences) and edit them on my computer (P111 500 mhz, 10gb hard drive, 128 mg ram, with the eventual aim of putting these onto a cd via a cd writer. Can this be done? one salesman tried to sell me a voodoo 3500 all singing all dancing gizmo - would this do the job or is there a better product? Any advice would be appreciated Thanks |

From: keir | posted: 05.06.2000 11:17 I'm not an expert on this matter so will concede to others if they post here. There are two levels of image editing on your PC - amateur level and professional. With amateur you can get a card like the Voodoo 3500 which has a video in and grab images from composite or S-Video source. The difference between it and a professional set-up is at what resolution it can grab images. Anything less than 1024x768 and you'll start to notice pixellation - ie computery effect of jagged edges - when you're running them at full screen. I'm not sure what resolution the 3500 can grab images but would suspect 1024x768 was probably it's limit (or perhaps a notch higher). In contrast, professional capture cards will let you start grabbing at up to 1600x1200 resolution, and will probably let you grab higher. |
