From: Andy | posted: 30.04.2003 13:54 Olympus use to sell a verity of cards, one of which supported "in camera" stitching of photos to create multiple images and mosaic them into one. Not just panoramic pictures, but vertical as well as horizontal compiling. My Olympus 3030 had one supplied as standard and I found difficult to use in this mode. When switching to panoramic mode the camera viewfinder had helpful line-up marks when the card was in operation. As you state they were available as an accessory but seemed expensive as they twice the price of a similar sized memory card that did not have the extra functions. Having used both the card and also my computer software to produce panoramic shots, I would advise you to save your money and stick to computer software. The only thing you need to do is practice panning your camera to produce enough overlap for the computer software to stitch the pics together. Another helpful hint is to override your camera’s exposure and lock it to keep the pictures a uniform density. I hope this is helpful, as my information is somewhat historic, being based on what was enthusiastic tinkering with a new toy some 18 months ago. Although I still think digital photos are best for fun, I have in fact reverted back to 35mm film as my family seem able to break any decent camera I take out with them. |
