From: Steve | posted: 22.08.2003 14:09 Hi everyone, just looking for some help. Recently built a computer using this Asus board. It has a P4 2.4gig, and 512Meg of Samsong 400mhz RAM. Anyway I have set everything up and there is no signal to the monitor and it doesn't even get to the floppy in the boot sequence, have tried the Graphics card on another comp and that is working fine, only thing I can think of is to try a PCI card it it,im thinking that maybe the card's i have are the wrong voltage for the board, is it required a 1.5v board and mine could be 3/3.3v baord. Does anyone have any ideas what to try, the mboard light comes on, not sure if the baord is currupt or something. Thanks in advace Steve |

From: Nigel | posted: 25.08.2003 19:58 Steve, the only time I had a system that did absolutely NOTHING when I powered up for the first time was that the memory was the wrong type. Even to run the POST tests requires memory! Best of luck! |

From: Matthew | posted: 02.09.2003 17:08 I got the same problem with this motherboard as well. later, i found out that the motherboard can only support 1.5v 8x AGP mode, but I am not sure about it. Now I am asking the shop for an exchange |

From: John | posted: 31.01.2004 11:12 Hi Steve, I had a similar problem using P4S800 m/b with Celeron 2.4 GHz chip, Sparkle 128Mb 7300M4T grahics card an 1GB memory. Memory can be a problem although in my case it was the CPU. I replaced it with a 1.7 Ghz chip and it fired up OK. waiting for a replacement from Savastore.Com. I am experiencing some graphical problems with certain simulators namely Railroad Tycoon 3, Pharaoh and MS Train Simulator etc. I am running Win XP Pro NTFS and I rather think that these do not like NTFS. From: Charliebravo9 | posted: 21.09.2004 15:53 Hi Guys, Actually this is a real value for money board. I ran it with an Intel P4 2.4 GHz chip with FSB of 400 MHz, GeForce MX 440-8X card and 1Mb 2100 memory. You do have to do your homework though. Only problem I encountered is when I upped the chip to an Intel P4 3.0GHz with FSB of 800 MHz and 512Kb 3200 memory. I used an existing 120 Gb HDD with XP Pro. This all hung up as the boot was looking for a partioned file windows/drivers/system32/mup.sys. It meant booting up from the cd and running a restore of windows XP and thats it. As a precaution make sure you back up any data before you try this. |

From: Chris | posted: 23.01.2005 12:31 I've had a similar problem, i've built two computers with this same motherboard the ASUS P4S800 and i tried to run an Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz (model D) 320* unsuccessfully, but this machines problem was solved when i ran the 3.0EGhz Prescott chip in it. I went out and bought another 3.4Ghz chip thinking the problem was the chip was fauly i think it may actually have been bios version problem. But the bios versions that both CPUs require are the same. So i am really stumped having tested everything else in the machine. I admit however, when i first built the machine i may have put in a 3v AGP card into the slot (at first i thought it was that), but it has since worked with the 3GHz chip and a .8V 8x AGP card. I am an Aussie, and this same chip that will solve my problem is $285 Australian dollars, which is not the dearest, but for a student who is just doing a favour for a friend this is an expensive mistake that i am going to have to burden. |

From: Chris | posted: 24.01.2005 12:25 I have done some more research and solved the problem. It was a firmware (bios) update that was needed, however this can only be done if you put a CPU in it that will get it working. I put my own, Intel Celeron 1.7Ghz CPU with 400MHz FSB in it, as since the motherboard was developed the bios versions have been compatable with the CPU. Even if the CPU does work, but the bios version does not match what the CPU offically requires you could still experience spontaenous restarting etc... just hicups in the system. So even though the 3GHz one works as such, it still needs to have the bios updated to the latest one. The latest one can be downloaded from the ASUS website and in this case is version 1009 (i'm running version 1007). Hope this helps. I can't take all the credit, I spoke to a technican at The Disc Shop (Nerang, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia) he directed me as to what it probably was. |

From: Stuart | posted: 30.03.2005 15:18 Did anyone have a problem with the USB ports on this Mboard? I have got everyhting working on the system apart from the USB ports can anyone suggest what I can do. I have enabled them in the bios and Windows XP has recognised them after an uninstall and reboot, I have had a USB storage device working on them so they are not faulty I just can't get a printer, WebCam, ADSL Modem fro Broadband or a digital camera to work? Any suggestions? |

From: keitarosan | posted: 20.06.2005 19:36 I had the same problem a yours but mine is a li'l bit different. I had it with an Intel 2.8Ghz 533/512K P4 processor, MSI FX5700-LE 128MB, 512MB PC3200, an 80GB HDD with XP Pro, 350W Enermax PSU, and 2 (two) DVD writers. Right after assembling the whole thing. It had trouble detecting the drives. All of them. After replacing the cables a couple of times. It went okay but after 3 weeks of using it for gaming and other simle stuff. It went berserk again. I lost at least 8 DVD+R's when I tried burning a non-CSS DVD video. Nero says that it's an I/O error. Then, after a reboot all drives are lost again. When I finally got the HDD detected. It won't boot up normally so I have to go to safe boot but will stop at the "mup.sys" part. I can't repair Windows because the mobo couldn't find any drives other than the HDD that sometimes its there and sometimes it's not. I sent it back to the store that I got it from. It's been 2 days already and they're still working on it. Does anyone had this problem solved or at least know what's wrong with it? I want them to replace the board but I want to know what's causing it. Btw, I have the latest BIOS version so that's not it. I just don't want to keep a sloppy board if there's a bug in it. I've had so many PC's and most of them are Asus board because they are good. I always buy Asus boards since then and didn't have any problem. This is actually my first time to have a problem with this brand. But you know, there's always a first time for everybody to get a "lemon" and I don't want to keep it if these series of boards are "lemons". |
