From: Tom | posted: 20.02.2004 01:14 I was supplied with a Mustek 1200 usb Plus scanner when I bought my computer (with Windows XP on it) and I am still trying to get it to work properly after 3 years. There is an update on the Mustek site but that doesn't work either. I have fitted an ethernet card to my PC and it has been working properly for 2 years. |

From: Peter Gustavus | posted: 20.02.2004 07:42 The biggest problem with Time is the lack of a bootable copy of Windows on CD. They will not supply this. They do charge you £20 for a so called recovery disk which will wipe your hard drive totally, and reset the machine to how it was when you bought it. It uses a hidden partition to do this. The problem is, there are many conditions which cause you to need to boot from a Windows CD, and if any of them happens to you, you will have to buy another Windows license. I bought a Time machine 2 years ago and am now in this position. You get much better value by buying a generic cheap system from Ebuyer, along with it an OEM copy of XP, and install it yourself. A great athlon machine is available currently on ebuyer for around 270 inc vat. The other problem I had, the graphics card went. Also, check out the Time delivery charges, they are way over the top. I will not buy from Time again. |

From: julie young | posted: 20.02.2004 22:29 Take the crap modem out and replace it.However this will invalidate the warranty which means Time have no confidence in their machines. This is a TYPICAL Time computers con. We pay over the odds for an average machine based on the promise of added value such as. a rubbish so-called digital camera and useless software.I detest this company. Do yourself a favour and buy a remainder from someone else.. |

From: Mick Jones | posted: 26.02.2004 15:07 Thanks Kev Your solution worked a treat. Downloaded the drivers to desktop, opened the folder. I,ve no idea where they went. Uninstalled the modem and the computer did the rest. I,ve removed all traces of supanet and am using V21 which for £9.99 is excellent. Again, many thanks |

From: Bob Johnsohn | posted: 02.03.2004 12:00 Just bought a comp from time, and they gave me a number to call to get rid of supanet (can't remember what number was, but phone the store and get it off them.) - don't worry, not one of the premium rate numbers. Someone took me through a procedure to remove it and now I'm using AOL with no probs. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it's working fine now. |

From: Wasuup | posted: 19.03.2004 23:49 While I agree that Time (and Tiny, they are the same company) customer service and technical support sometimes leave a lot to be desired, I feel compelled to put in my views. I work for the company, firstly on their tech support lines and now in their repair centre. I feel that the majority of machines they sell do represent good value for money, however most of the problems that arise when contacting support lines arise from extremely poor management by the company. They are only interested in the bottom line and have no long term vision. The issue of dedicated modems is something that is starting to be brought in accross the whole industry, Dell in America use AOL dedicated modems, PC World will soon be doing the same. The simple way around this is to sign up for a free classic account then follow the instructions for unlocking the modem. On the subject of having to purchase a reload/restore cd this is due to Microsoft licensing prohibiting the supply of a Windows CD with new machines. If you have to change the hard drive the restore cd will still work on desktop machine, notebooks do need a special program running on them to flash the hard drives firmware. I am currently building a website that should hopefully explain how to get around most of the various Time issues, with helpfull hints on how to get your machine returned with the minimum of time on the phone(it's easier than you may think!!) I will post again when this is complete with a link. All things said, the computers are excellent value for money, the majority of units sold work well without any problems at all; it's just a shame that only negative views get a public airing |

From: Paul | posted: 23.03.2004 21:21 " but the whole package is set up in such a way that you cant change anything on the bios or anything else" I apologize, however i do not believe that for a moment, if your bios is locked, there is very little chance it is the fault of the manufacturer of the system. |
