From: Paul | posted: 23.03.2004 21:23 Posted by "Wassup" Quote " If you have to change the hard drive the restore cd will still work on desktop machine" No it wont, unless the company replaces the hard drive, reload images are on the hard drive not on the reload cd. You either phrased this wrong or you dont know how the T-Clone reload process works. |

With regards to the modem "optimisation" issue, Time have setup a website which will sort this for you, which is relatively easy to go through, they even have a specific telephone support number for it.. |

From: Phil Dowse | posted: 25.03.2004 10:01 Just bought a new PC from Tiny and found I had the same problem with my modem being locked to supanet. I phoned Tiny's helpline and this is what I had to do to de-optimize (as they call it) my modem. First you need to sign up to Supanet and create a "classic" pay as you go account, and register your username and password. Once you have done this you can go online (using Supanet) and go to the following website. https://signup.supernet.com/cgi-bin/myaccount Sign in and choose De-optimise Dialler PC. Follow onscreen instructions and your modem will be unlocked allowing you to set up with another ISP. The process takes about 10mins to do and is quite easy. Hope this helps anyone who has bought a PC from Tiny/Time |

From: Martin H | posted: 25.03.2004 13:39 I tried the approach suggested by Kevin Fitzpatrick (3/2/04) but it made no difference, even though I deleted the original modem and installed the generic driver. Something (!) blacklists all dial-up numbers except the Supanet ones. In desperation I called Time support and a very helpful bloke told me what I needed to do to 'de-optimise' the modem. Here's what you need to do... 1). Open an account with Supanet (if you haven't already done so). 2). Go to the Supanet home page and in the email login section, select 'forgot password' (don't enter your name or password yet). 3). When the next window opens, enter your name and password (make sure there is NO tick in 'I've forgot my password'). Press continue. 4). When the next window opens, select 'de-optimise Dialler PC' and press continue. 5). Fill in the details requested and follow the instructions (you need to wait 10 mins before doing a manual update from the Supanet dialler). After completing the above, you should then be able to create other dial-ups (it worked for me). However, you still get the damned Supanet Internet dialler popping up all the time and if you ever restore your PC to it's factory settings (and maybe even a WinXP restore to a date prior to the modem de-optimisation?), you will need to go through this process again. I hope this helps any other poor unfortunate souls who - like me - have wasted hours of their lives trying to resolve this disgraceful issue. Hey, maybe that's why they are called 'TIME computers'! If you've got one you're going to waste a lot of it! Best of luck... Martin |

From: Wasuup | posted: 28.03.2004 03:15 Changing the modem will NOT invalidate the warranty, PC's are designed to be upgraded by the end user. However, and this goes for all computer manufacturers, the new modem that you put in will not be covered under the warranty as it was not supplied by the manufacturer |
