From: ssr | posted: 27.10.2005 18:37 RIGHT! We should sue this crap company. I was told that I had to pay 700 to change the motherboard, since the "common problem" of vidoe chip on motherboard unfortunately happened on my grv-670. Srew them! My friend got similar problem 3 months after he the this model and still he needed to pay to get it fixed. |

From: Abbas | posted: 29.10.2005 13:17 Hi. I have a Sony Vaio Fx-805, and apart from a keyboard error (replaced by sony during warranty period), I have nothing but LOVE for my Vaio. I have used it for everything from Uni work and VB/Internet development to running Linux. Yes, its a little slow now when it comes to using ColdFusion and running a million things.. BUT, I love it. I agree though, Sony's policy on warranties is cr#p I have on occasion had errors with this machine (blue screen) and have worked out the problem. OVERHEATING is the main reason why my laptop temporarily dies. (i do a lot of large downloads). So to keep it in peak condition, do not use your laptop continuously with stuff that causes you to use hard-drive, CD Drive etc... E.g., dont use it to play a game for 20 hours straight... I have spent almost 24 hours working in Word and had no problem. Either way, my advice is to NOT buy Sony. I know I have one (and hopefully it will work for a few more years), but the truth is that it IS over priced. I cant suggest any other laptops as I have not had the experience, but do your research 1st. And for your information, extended warranties are rubbish, as guarentted the DAY they run out, your computer will die. Abbas. |

From: Julio | posted: 06.11.2005 13:04 Been looking on upgrading my laptop and am glad I have seen this thread. Just a word of Caution have a Dell Inspiron 8100 and have had nothing but trouble with it, hard disk failures, had so many rebuilds lost count. I have had all the same issues with Dell support as you guys have had e.g not covered for worldwide warranty when hard disk failed in South Africa. Also the support is outsourced to India and of a poor standard. So don't expect any better support from Dell. I am seriously looking at buying a Mac laptop next as my mate never seem to have any problems with his machines. Julio |

From: Rommel Mohun | posted: 21.11.2005 14:06 If any wants to join me, i think that we should sue the damn Thiefs for selling untrustworthy products. We could all get together and sue them. Although I did received a new laptop, it took them more that 4 months to give me a new laptop. I was not going to let them get away with this, so i was really darn adament that my laptop should be replaced. I still have the case reference numbers and also all the logas I and they made on Vaio Esupport.Contact me rommelmohun@yahoo.com together we can all get what we deserve our money back and also new Sony Laptops which we can flog on ebay or better still, to the emplaoyees of Sony. |

From: London Fuming | posted: 29.11.2005 13:36 The screen on my VAIO has just died a mere two months after the ridiculous one year warranty. I now have to pay for someone to tell me how much more I have to pay to get it fixed. Why can't they just bloody tell you given that you've forked out over a grand for the privilege in the first place! I am particularly incensed because my Sony digital camera did exactly the same thing a couple of months ago - just one month after the warrantly expired and I had to pay to be told that it would cost more to fix than buying a new one! So I bought a Minolta! I am never ever buying a Sony product again. They should have stuck to walkmans because this seems to be the only product that they understand! London Fuming |

From: lisa | posted: 01.12.2005 14:22 I have had my Sony Vaio for a mere 15 months and to my surprise does not even start with mains or battery. My warrently has expired and now I am in two minds whether to fork out money for repairs, or save the money towards a new laptop- not a sony. Does anyone know of any reason why this has happened and is there anything i can do for myself to try and tackle the problem????????????????????????????? |

From: Nony Laptops | posted: 09.12.2005 11:20 I have a Vaio GRX316MP. Ran OK for two and a half years and then last week the screen froze. I managed to connect the hard drive to my desktop and rescue the data. Formatted the hard drive and then began to reboot using the 5cd sony recovery software. The laptop either refused to come back on or occasionally would run the recovery software for about 20 seconds before freezing. Its now with my local PC repair shop. They said it may well be a problem with the motherboard and if it is then it won't be worth repairing. They also said that they get lots of Vaios in for repair. I have had enough and WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SONY! |
