football, weather, virii... (22/06/2000)
It's been a couple of months since the last rambling editorial column, during which time all sorts of bizarre stuff has happened. For a while, all of Western Europe shifted into an alternate dimension, where England had three consecutive days of hot weather and also managed to beat a bus-load of German geriatrics at football. But we're back in our own reality now.
Aside from football and the weather, we've also had a major e-mail virus attack. Imagine our delight when we received e-mails (before our ISP blocked them) from two PR women proclaiming their love. Imagine our disappointment when we opened them to find only virus code. Imagine our relief that we don't use Outlook. The most entertaining outcome of all this has been the launch of the Unix/Mac e-mail virus; "This virus works on the honour system. Please forward it to everyone you know and delete a bunch of your files at random. Thank you for your co-operation". Nice.
But while all this has been going on, we've been getting our hands dirty with all sorts of oily Internet protocols. As a result, we've now added an IT news feed to IT Reviews. Using this, you can search the biggest international news sites in the world at one stroke, and have all the relevant stories on one page. Want to find out the latest news on Bluetooth or WAP? Now you can.
Over the coming months we'll be adding more features like this to IT Reviews. If there's anything in particular that you'd like to see (IT jobs, auctions, classifieds, dancing hamsters, etc.), let us know and we'll do our best to implement it. We'll still be adding more and more product reviews to IT Reviews (considering the name, it would be rude not to), but if we can provide you with everything you need, IT-wise, in one site, you'll come back regularly. And not only will give us more advertising revenue to develop the site, it will also give us a warm feeling inside, which otherwise we'd only get from a night on the vodka.
