From: W Denness | posted: 02.01.2004 16:45 Having read all the other comments, I have to report that the staff at Time customer service are extreamly unhelpful and down-right rude, hanging up in the middle of the conversation. I purchased the computer after pesistant bagdering and when it was delivered, several componats were down graded from what was ordered. No acknowledgment of order was sent, although my bank was debited within minutes. I requested a normal modem, as I comunicate with remote PLCs. The sales person agreed, but it was not carried out. The installation of dedicated modems should be investigated by the Office of Fair trading. |

From: terry page | posted: 20.01.2004 10:20 having read previous messages on the forum i can see that i would be of no use asking them (time) to fix my problem. ive had computers (three over the last eleven years) with no problems. now i have discovered 'time' ! . after eight months it will no longer boot. ive tried resetting it, but the whole package is set up in such a way that you cant change anything on the bios or anything else. im completely stuck and have to head for a local repairer in the hope that they can 'de-time' the thing and and get it working in a more robust way. whatever you do dont purchase a time computer. |

From: Kevin Fitzpatrick | posted: 03.02.2004 05:43 Searched everywhere and found a possible solution to this.. Will try in the next few hours.. Done a bit of digging on that fault and came up with this... Tiny / Time computers lock their modems to ISP Supanet , they say this is why they can sell the systems cheap as supanet subsidises them for it.. Same way as you get a cheap phone locked to Vodafone .. Found this solution so downloaded the new generic driver and will try installing it today.. Quote: 1. Go to the Conexant web site, go to the Driver Support section, and download the driver file for an HSF modem (you'll see what I mean when you get there). Save the file to disc, then unzip it to a place you can find it later. 2. Right click the My Computer icon on your desktop, select Properties, select Hardware, click the Device Manager button. 3. Find the modem in the listing, right click the entry, and select uninstall. Confirm the action in the resulting box. 4. Reboot your PC. 5. On reboot, the PC finds the 'new' hardware, and asks if you want to instal it - say yes, and tell the Wizard where to find the drivers (where you unzipped them to earlier). 6. That's it. The modem now shows as a Generic, as opposed to saying it's a CNXT Vx PCI, or whatever, but it seems to work fine for me. I've already accessed two different ISP's now, with absolutely no issues. Hope this helps Kev |

From: John | posted: 09.02.2004 11:35 I've had a time computer for about 3-4 years now, Athlon 800. Some of the software was for Win 98 and threw up errors because it came with ME. Biggest complaint I had was... After about 10 months hard disk failed. Took about 10days to get it replaced but was ok then. When it failed 2nd time out of warranty, (a 30Gb model) a replacement from Time was about £150.00. From Maplins £30.00. Put the hard disk in and put in the re-load disk I had purchased from Time containing ME. Hee Hee no way hosay!!! This is not a valid re-load and wouldn't load anything at all, presume there is a hidden tag on the hard disk checked for by the re-load software. Sooooo I'm running Win 98 SE and have a useless rebuild disk. |

From: Anne M | posted: 11.02.2004 17:18 DO NOT BUY A TIME Computer. I have just done so and expect to spend a lot of money on the phone calls to them. The "optimised" modem means you cannot connect to anything else. They do not do what thery promise. They keep you hanging on a premium line number and then try to keep you talking and hanging on once you have got through. they couldn't possibly be making any money out of the phone call could they? They have now got a modification for the modem which they will talk you through. I suspect that the machine is so engineered that no normal person would be able to use it anyway. My message again, DO NOT BUY A TIME Computer. |

From: Cliff | posted: 19.02.2004 11:38 I really think that Time's policy must of supplying a modem that cannot access other ISP's, without prior explanation, borders on the criminal. It must be in breach of "monopolies" legislation and maybe Trading Standards departments can help. Such a pity that a good high spec machine that is great for games, photography etc should prove to be supplied by charlatans. |

From: Pete | posted: 19.02.2004 16:32 Heh you think thats bad? try working for said company..... im going to be testing some of the suggestions given in the above posts on a custs pc tomorrow... ill let ya know how i get on..... in other news i believe the supanet locked modems are going to be fazed out - seems your reactions have been noted by those upstairs..... you remember that irritating supanet registration thing that you disabled sometime ago??? speaking to the techs earlier in the week - if you use it to log on and register a classic account - you are somehow meant to find a manual update for your modem which will unlock it.... yes i have tried to find the ruddy thing... no i havent yet found it - once i do - ill copy it and post it somewhere useful....
