From: Liam | posted: 13.06.2004 00:07 Hi Wendy, I don't know if you've already sorted out your problem. I still have an optimised modem on my tiny computer but i am planning on trying the registry edit when i get back to it to de-optimise. But about your problem with the supanet explorer, You can install the regular internet explorer by going to START, CONTROL PANEL, then in control panel click on ADD/REMOVE SOFTWARE icon. This will open the add/remove software window, in the tab on the left hand side of this window clik on ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS and a new window will appear, in the list that appears click on INTERNET EXPLORER in the list so that a tick appears in the box to the left of it, then just click NEXT and follow the instructions on-screen, this should install regular internet explorer onto your pc. You may need to have to windows disk in the cd-rom to do this but i didn't need it so neither should you. I hope this helps... |

From: David sloss | posted: 22.06.2004 11:19 I like everyone else have been having problems with time computers ,The main problem has been to do with the modem and being tied into supanet. I have written a letter of complaint to Time customer services and have posted a copy here. Enjoy Dear Sir It is with regret that I write to complain about Time Computers and particularly Time Customer Services. I recently bought a Time computer at what I thought was a very reasonable price for the spec being purchased. When I got the machine home I discovered that Time do not package their units with the Windows XP software disc ,so if you have a problem you have to then pay £60 or so for a reinstallation disc to correct the fault. So the customers pays for the operating system, and then has to pay for it again, a stroke of genius. The package that I bought comes with a Lexmark Z605 printer, but it doesn't come with the relevant USB lead to connect to the tower, you also have to buy one of these? My third point is that Time send all their units out with the modems configured only to work with supanet, you cannot connect to any other isp's. Why is this ? I'm sure there is some very clever explanation. I now find myself requiring the XP disc. As I mentioned earlier Time send their computers out with the modem configured only to work with supanet. I need to be able to connect to a different ISP .I contacted Technical support and was told that I had to buy the reinstallation disc to be able to deoptimize the modem .There is nothing wrong with my computer in fact it is one of the most stable units I have ever used. So to have to then buy the reinstallation disc when there is nothing wrong with your system to be able to change a setting inflicted on you by Time is nothing more than robbery. I reluctantly ordered a disc on Friday 11th June and was told it would be dispatched Monday 14th 1st class mail to arrive Tues or Weds. The disc didn't arrive on Weds (16th) I spoke to customer services that Weds and they told me that it had been dispatched On Tues 15th not on Mon 14th .They said if it hadn't arrived by Thurs 17th they would Dispatch a replacement disc to me. It never arrived on the 17th .I called customer services and asked for a replacement disc and was told it was to early to send out a replacement disc and that it had been sent on Tues 15th and would now be with me on the Fri or Mon. So why had I been told that I would be sent a replacement on the Thurs during my first call to customer services? It is now Mon 21 and I still have no disc I have again spoken to customer services and have now been told that the disc was in fact dispatched on Thurs 17th of June and not on Tues 15th and that it has been sent second 2nd class not 1st and that it will be with me this Weds or is it Thurs, and I still cant have a replacement disc. On the three occasions I have called customer services I have been told three or four different stories. ”IT WILL BE DISPATCHED ON THE MON 1st CLASS ! IT LEFT ON THE TUES! IF IT DOESN'T ARRIVE THURS WE WILL SEND YOU A REPLACEMENT! OH IT ONLY LEFT ON THE THURS 2nd CLASS ,SHOULD BE WITH YOU? Why do I get a different story every time I call ? I have been lied to on at least two different occasions, either that or the people I have spoken to don't have any idea what is going on and should not be working for Time. As this disc is taking forever to arrive I have started to research my modem problem on the Internet and I have found a huge list of people on an IT Review forum page all with similar complaints and problems .There is a big section on deoptimizing your modem .After reading these posts I have discovered a very simple way of correcting my modem fault and it doesn't involve reinstalling windows XP and it certainly doesn't advise you to spend £60 on a disc. I have tried this solution and surprise surprise it works .So why wasn't I told about this simple fix when I spoke to tech support .I was on the phone for over an hour, there was plenty of TIME for them to of told me. Perhaps they didn't know about this fix, but if they didn't, why didn't they. They are tech support. Are they even qualified to be giving advice? And why have I been advised that the only way I could change this modem setting was to purchase what is very Expensive disc considering you have already in my opinion paid for it when you buy the computer. Are they told to push the sale of these discs on their customers? In conclusion, I am unhappy that Time sends out there units without the XP operating system and without all the leads required to connect the hardware provided, resulting in the customer having to pay for these items somewhere down the line. I am absolutely disgusted with the customer support given ,the blatant lies and stories that are told just to dodge the issue and to get you off the phone, you were quick enough to take my money when the order was placed. And I am amazed that tech support don't know how to give tech support, they have however clearly been sent on a course on how to sell your XP discs Time computers seriously has to look at the issues I have raised. When I eventually upgrade my system I will not be upgrading to a Time Machine nor will I ever recommend Time computers o anyone else. I'm still waiting for my disc ,has it been dispatched yet? |

From: Lee | posted: 25.06.2004 14:40 to be honest, as a time employee, we are obliged to tell customers about the optimised modem. It is also mentioned on some of the material that is given out. My advice is not to get into any kind of legal battle with them seeing as they will stall it forever (I've learned the tactics over time) I can't say that I agree with the company's policy because I don't, we've complained about it frequently to no avail. So I'm sorry that you've had these experiences but my advice would be to warn people and nottry going after the company itself, its already in dire straits financially and you would not be able to get anything back because they simply don't have it. |

From: Daniel Kash | posted: 14.07.2004 01:42 John, rebuild disk ? Next time read the disc, you'll find it says reload/backup CD. In order to prevent piracy and from instruction from Microsoft, we are not allowed to send out original copies of Windows, only a reload CD that will extract a Ghost image from OUR hard drive with OUR drivers, basically factory condition. OUR reload disc will not work on a blank hard drive will it ? Why ? Because there is about 100k worth of info on that £60 disc and the preload is entirely on the original hard drive. From: Michael | posted: 15.07.2004 18:47 I know this conversation was a few weeks ago, however I am about to combat the same problem. Basically, when we got our PC we had to sign upto supanet because we need our connection and my parents signed up for unlimited 12 month contract - we are now going to cancel that contract however we want to use AOL on our computer so i have gone into the registry key and the files are down as band001 - if this is changed to old01 will it still work and the modem will work with AOL software? Finally, when you say change dialer settings, is that basically just install AOL software and let that install its settings? |

From: Dennis A | posted: 30.07.2004 12:01 My Time comp. came with supanet which worked for the first two weeks then getting the Server not found etc messages. I was with supanet before using my library comp. Because of this problem I am now with AOL without having to do anything about supanet. The only problem, which I ignore, is that I cannot access the supanet website. My friends can access their ISPs ok. |
